SPECIAL NEWS AND INFORMATION
SERMON NOTES
Jesus recognized the crowds of people following. Jesus recognized that there was a need from the people. They have come from all around the Ancient Near East to be near to what Jesus was doing. So he takes them up the mountain, takes his seat as teacher, and opens his mouth to declare the glory of God’s Kingdom. In that kingdom, you are blessed. But you are also called to more. To be the salt and the light. However, what happens when a new teacher arrives on the scene? Rumors begin to fly that he is changing God’s law. Jesus addresses those accusations next. So join us this week as we continue to hear the Good News from the Sermon on the Mount.
Yours in Christ
Brandon

NEW GROUP - ATTENTION CREATIVE PEOPLE!
There's a new WAPC group forming called INTERPRETATIONS.
Have you been wanting to make some art, but need some inspiration or maybe some motivation in the form of a deadline? We've got both. Each month a prompt will be provided, based on a Biblical story, verse or theme. You may interpret the prompt in whatever form or medium you choose - drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, fiber. It could even be music or poetry. After receiving the prompt, you will have a month to create. We will then meet together at the church to share and discuss our interpretations. No experience necessary!
Stay tuned for announcement of our first prompt and meeting date.

ARBOR DAY
Last year, the session made a decision to cut down the large tree in front of our building. The contract from the tree service was in hand and was a mere day or so from being signed. But then something changed. Momentum built up in a few members that wanted to attempt to rehabilitate and save the tree. So over the last year, we have had tests and treatments done to the tree. It is unclear at this moment if the damage has been reversed, but by judging the leaves sprouting, I would say that the damage has at least lessened. But similar to the way that we are honoring God’s creation of the 21st, we will be observing National Arbor Day on the 28th. On this day, we will honor the tree that we are attempting to restore as well as all the ways that trees and God’s providence provide for us!

Traveling Light: Releasing the Burdens You Were Never Intended to Bear
By Max Lucado
(242/LUC)
From beloved award-winning author Max Lucado comes Traveling Light, refreshing words wrapped around the biblical passages of the 23rd Psalm to reenergize weary spiritual travelers. In his inimitable, pastoral voice that both soothes and exhorts, Lucado gently unpacks the verses of the psalm while helping readers lay down the burdens of doubt, anxiety, perfectionism, and fear. "You can't enjoy a journey carrying so much stuff," Lucado writes. "Why don't you just drop all that luggage?"
| |
Lucado mixes personal transparency with his trademark humor, offering uncomplicated counsel. Change your focus. Make time for rest. Know you are not alone. Be humble. Trust God. It's only when we set down our "luggage" and let God carry it for us, says Lucado, that we are free to share grace, offer comfort, and help lift the load of others. As you read Lucado's words and work through the study questions, you'll find your own load feeling a little lighter.
