10:00 AM Holy Eucharist at St. John's

From the Rector

Happy Veteran’s Day!

Even though I am a veteran myself, I sometimes forget Veteran’s Day until someone greets me with those words – or “Thank you for your service.”

It is certainly not a day to forget, but a day to give thanks for not only those who have served, or are currently serving in the armed forces, but for their spouses, partners, children, moms and dads, brothers and sisters – to all who support them.

Let us pray . . .

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad.  Defend them by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen  (The Book of Common Prayer, pg. 823)

Grace and peace,

Karen+

2022 Pledge Campaign

It is time for our Annual Pledge Campaign and your support is vital.  Our theme this year is ‘More Than Enough’. You should be receiving a letter in the mail this week to learn more about our theme and how it applies to St. Stephen’s.  Please read it and prayerfully consider your stewardship of treasure this coming year.  Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Volunteers Needed!

Santa Maria needs pantry volunteers to box groceries between 9:00am and 11:30am on weekdays. It’s a gratifying way to make a big difference in the lives of others. Call Santa Maria Urban Ministry at 408-292-3314. You must be at least twelve years old to volunteer.

FREE TO GOOD HOME!
St. John’s has a black spinet piano that is being replaced and is looking for a good home.  It’s a great piano in great condition. If you, or someone you know of, would like to own it, please contact Ginny at 51996ma@gmail.com

Poem from the Garden

Edy’s children told

me she loved the smell,

color, look, and feel

of lavender, so

we’ll be planting some

beside the labyrinth,

and it make take

some years to grow high —

bright purple, subtle

smell, weaving stalks, warm

leaves; good for wreaths,

garlands and teas —

but the labyrinth has time

to grow into her dream.

Food for thought:

“To be kind is more important than to be right.  Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks, but a special heart that listens.”

  • F. Scott Fitgerald.

Kudos to:

-our awesome vestry!

-Susan for assisting in the memorial service this morning.

-Andy our hard-working treasurer.

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?

Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed. How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us. The Church provides help in many ways. If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:

*   there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).

*   tell people about your answers to prayer! and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.

Please submit prayer requests to Rev. Karen.
