Vestry Corner - Lindsay Isaacs, Outreach Liaison

As the vestry liaison for outreach, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the generosity of the St. Matthew’s family. From food drives for the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry to building days with Habitat for Humanity, I’ve seen our church family show up repeatedly to joyfully give their time, talent and treasure to humbly serve others. Through outreach activities, we get to share God’s love with the community in tangible ways, and there are several upcoming opportunities that you can join.

Tomorrow, April 27, you can join the St. Matthew’s team at the 1-mile-long FODAC Run, Walk and Roll, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at Stone Mountain Park. Your $35 entry (kids 12 and under are FREE) supports this fundraiser for FODAC, and you can enjoy free entry into Stone Mountain Park for the day and a picnic. Try to get there early because the first 100 registered participants to arrive will receive FREE Adventure Passes to the park!

On Monday, April 29, from 3-6 p.m., we’d love for you to join us as we serve dinner at the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry in Grayson, located about 7 miles from St. Matthew’s. We could use help assembling the meals in bags and giving them to clients as they pick up their pantry assistance items from the Co-op.

Looking ahead, we have several outreach opportunities in May and June, including a sing-along at Delmar Gardens on May 18 from 4-5 p.m.; the Mending the Gap Superheroes for Seniors 5K & 1K in Lilburn City Park on June 8; our month-long, semi-annual food drive for the Co-op that will culminate in a Stock the Shelves event on June 29; and a school supply drive. And, at any time, if you can’t participate in person but would like to show your support financially, you can make donations through Realm and choose “Outreach” from the drop-down menu.

As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., famously said, “Everybody can be great ... because anybody can serve.” Although it might not seem like much to donate a few cans of food or spend a few hours at the Co-op, our individual efforts combine to make a big impact in the lives of others. Please consider joining the outreach committee and experiencing the joys of service with St. Matthew’s. Contact me at lindsayatl@gmail.com to learn more.

IS COMING MAY 19!

There will be ONE service at 10:00 a.m. on Pentecost, May 19, as we celebrate the birthday of the Church. Don’t forget to wear RED!

Do you speak a foreign language? We need you Sunday, May 19 on Pentecost, to be part of the Acts reading. Please contact Fr. Tim, Greg Andrews, Joan Kengla, or call the church office.

Baptism: Pentecost is a day when traditionally the sacrament of Baptism is administered in the church. If you or your child would like to be baptized on Sunday, May 19, please contact the church office, or talk with Fr. Tim.

Spot and Stop Scams—Forum for Youth and Adults

Next Sunday, May 5th at 9:30am

Come have breakfast at 9am and then spend some time together discussing current financial fraud trends, how to spot them and what you can do to keep you and your loved ones safe. We will look at elder exploitation/romance scams, USPS blue mailbox thefts and phishing/social engineering scams. Come for the education and bring your questions for afterward. Brought to you by the Communications Committee and Christian Formation Committee.
