We want our elderly, disabled and shut-in residents to know they are never alone. The You Are Not Alone (YANA) program is a free service for people who live within the jurisdiction of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. It offers peace of mind and a sense of security for those who enjoy their independence but have no friends or family to check on them regularly. People in the YANA program are able to take care of their own day-to-day needs, but recognize that a medical crisis could render them helpless. The YANA program has been credited with saving the lives of many elderly adults who live alone and have fallen or become sick.
The enrollment process is easy. Simply contact your local Sheriff station and provide your contact information in order to arrange for daily phone calls and weekly visits, and for emergency personnel to respond and access the individual’s property should the need arise. All information provided in the application process is kept confidential.

Youth Ride Free With PRONTO | |

Youth riders get ready to ride for FREE! Anyone aged 18 and under can now ride transit for free as part of the SANDAG Youth Opportunity Pass pilot program. Youth riders can use a Youth PRONTO App account or card on all San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) services for FREE through June 30, 2023.
The Youth Opportunity Pass (YOP) is a pilot program to connect youth to opportunity by providing free transit to anyone aged 18 and under. Youth riders must carry eligible identification to verify their status as a youth and must tap or scan their PRONTO App or card before every ride. Transit is perfect for youth riders who need:

Age-Friendly Community Action Planning Sessions | |
Are you a Solana Beach resident who is 50 years old or older? If so, please consider participating in the second series of our Age-Friendly Community action discussions. The City has partnered with the Social Policy Institute of San Diego State University, San Diego Foundation, and AARP to engage the community in transformative change by developing an Age-Friendly Program that will help our community to be more livable for people of all ages, especially older adults.
Come hear the feedback provided thus far and help to create a vision, goals, and action steps that will create an age-friendly community for all. These Action Planning Sessions will be held in-person and virtually in English. A session will also be offered in-person in Spanish. Solana Beach residents and service providers are invited to attend any of the sessions to get updated on the Age-Friendly Solana Beach initiative and provide your input!

Bulky-Item Cleanup Day!

Solana beach Bulky-Item Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, October 1st. The Bulky-Item Cleanup Day includes an onsite event and a curbside pickup.
The onsite cleanup event will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the La Colonia park parking lot at 715 Valley Avenue. In addition to collecting bulky items, this year's onsite cleanup event will have garden mulch available for self-load/self-haul, certified shredding trucks that will shred all items on site, and will also be collecting unwanted electronic waste and old batteries. Fluorescent light bulbs and other household hazardous waste (HHW) items will not be accepted at this event. HHW can be properly disposed of by calling (858) 481-7233.
Residents can also register for a curbside pickup which allows residents to place trash, green waste and four bulky items at the curb. Batteries or hazardous waste are not available for curbside pickup. Registration is now open by calling (858) 350-8544.
Bulky-Item Cleanup Day is a free event and is open to Solana Beach residents only.

MTS and NCTD Free Ride Day

Get a free lift on Wednesday, October 5th! Trolleys, COASTER, SPRINTER, and fixed-route buses will be totally free to ride. Free Ride Day is being held in conjunction with California’s Clean Air Day, where residents across the state of California will take steps to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Taking transit in lieu of driving can provide many benefits, including:
Cost savings: With gas prices still hovering around $5 in San Diego County, riders are invited to try the commute cost calculator to see how much they can save by choosing transit.
Avoiding special event traffic and parking costs: The Padres will play their final home game on Free Ride Day. Fans can take the COASTER or Trolley to get to Petco Park.
Reducing air pollution: People who will participate in Free Ride Day are encouraged to take the clean air pledge and demonstrate the collective commitment to cleaner air.

Temporary Public Arts Program Call for Artists

The City and its Public Arts Commission are accepting applications for the City's ongoing Temporary Public Arts Program. The Temporary Public Arts Program is a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their works of art in a high-traffic urban and ocean-view environment attracting Solana Beach residents as well as tourists from around the world.
Artists are invited to submit sculptures of various sizes for consideration for a one-year exhibition. The program aims to select five (5) pieces to be displayed at highly visible, designated temporary public art sites throughout our beautiful coastal community. If selected, the artist will receive a $1,500 stipend for each sculpture. Submission deadline is Wednesday, October 19th, at 5:30 PM.

Be advised that, at the Council Meeting on September 14, 2022, the City Council voted to continue to hold all public meetings, including City Council and City Commissions, virtually through September and further voted to return to in-person meetings beginning in October. City Council will return to in-person meetings beginning with their meeting on October 12, 2022, in Council Chambers at City Hall. All meetings are also subject to cancellation. Please refer to the City’s website for updates on whether meetings will be held virtually or in person. | |
