Upcoming Worship
IN-PERSON & LIVE-STREAM WORSHIP
Sun Nov 13, 10:00am Compassion is the Purpose of Life ~ Rev. Meredith Garmon

I can't speak for other species -- or the certifiable narcissists or sociopaths -- but connecting with others is what most human beings are here for. If we kept that fact in mind, we'd probably be a bit more skillful at it. Maybe.

In RE: K-9th grade classes meet. Youth Group is on break until Friday, November 18; youth attend worship. Children in 3rd grade and younger must be picked up in their classrooms.

We no longer require proof of vaccination. We continue to require masks for those attending service in person.

Click here for the Sun Nov 13 Order of Service.

Messages from Ministry

Sun Nov 13, 10:00-11:15am (OWL ends 11:45am)
Kindergarten Class, Beginning the Journey: Children meet with Tracy to explore questions they are beginning to ask and learn about terms like religion, prayer, church, rituals, and beliefs.
1st-3rd Grade Class, Signs of Our Faith: Laura S and Christine H are leading the lesson, Looking for Community. Children will consider the importance of the communities to which they belong, especially their congregation. Children in 3rd grade and younger must be picked up in their classrooms. Please do so right after worship so RE leaders can go to other activities.
4th-5th Grade Class, Toolbox of Faith: Laura G is leading the session, Integrity (Compass) with Nicholas A. The compass symbolizes integrity. This session provides opportunities for participants to reflect on the directional compass as a symbol for our inner moral compass.
6th-7th Grade Class, Riddle & Mystery: Gail and Gus are leading the session, Out of Nothing. Many of us question why we exist, where life comes from, what lies beyond the first known causes? This session applies science to the question of how life began.Youth respond to the Unitarian Universalist emphasis on what we do with our life over a preoccupation with life's ultimate cause.
8th-9th Grade Class, Our Whole Lives (OWL): Irene J and Daniel T are leading the sessions on Bullying and Bystander Responsibilities and Consent Education. Youth will explore the role sexuality has in bullying, related to body size, perceived sexual orientation or gender identity, sexualization and more. They will also learn to recognize and express consent. The lesson is grounded in the premise that any sexual encounter that lacks mutual consent is a sexual violation.
8th-12th Grade, Youth Group: Youth Group does not meet this Sunday. Youth attend worship.

Annual Appeal

In November we make our once-a-year appeal for financial donations to the Ecumenical Emergency Food Pantry of White Plains. In the past six months, the population we serve has soared to over 2,200 people, in some 900 households. The food pantry provides clients with bags of healthful food every week, including fresh vegetables, meat, and fish, along with pantry-stable canned goods. We are coming up on two important holidays, for which clients will be given everything they need for a family feast. Click for our appeal letter, to learn more. Mail checks to CUUC with the memo "Food Pantry" or contribute online at cucwp.org by clicking the yellow Donate button and selecting either "Share the Plate (50%)" to share half with CUUC, or "Ecumenical Food Pantry" to give the full amount to the charity.
Add a Ribbon of Remembrance

The remembrance ribbon display from last Sunday's worship service will remain up in our sanctuary for the next few weeks. We have extra ribbons in the lobby and in the sanctuary, and invite everyone who so wishes to write the name of someone you would like to honor and add it to our display.
Rethinking Thanksgiving

From Land Acknowledgement to LANDBACK, Sun Nov 20, 4:00pm, Online
Tonatierra, American Indian Law Alliance, NDN Collective, Sogorea Te Land Trust, and the Indigenous Solidarity Network invite you to hear from Indigenous leaders who will give updates from the frontlines of this fight. Indigenous solidarity is an essential part of the struggle for racial and environmental justice. Join the Indigenous Solidarity Network (SURJ, Catalyst Project, Resource Generation) this season to interrogate the legacy of the "Thanksgiving" holiday and hear from frontline Indigenous leaders on how to join efforts to protect land and water at this year's Rethinking Thanksgiving: From Land Acknowledgement to LANDBACK.” Speakers include Betty Lyons, Tupac Enrique Acosta, Demetrius Johnson, Corrina Gould, and Jake Edwards. Moderated by Eve Reyes-Aguirre. Live captioning, Spanish Interpretation and ASL interpretation will be available. Register for this webinar here.
Substitute Sandwich Volunteers Wanted

The Meals for HOPE sandwich team is still looking for volunteer substitutes to help out when needed. We gather on Tuesdays from 10:00-11:30am in the CUUC kitchen to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Contact: Ellen Simon (efsimon1@gmail.com)
Share the Plate: Ecumenical Food Pantry

This month we share half our non-pledge collection with the Ecumenical Emergency Food Pantry of White Plains. The Pantry was founded in 1979 by CUUC and four other congregations, and provides healthful food to over 900 households each week (up from 500 last year!). Mail checks to CUUC with the memo “Share the Plate - Food Pantry” or click here to pay online, and select “Share the Plate.” You may also select “Ecumenical Food Pantry” if you'd like your full donation to go to the charity.
Caring & Sharing

If we can help you or someone you know in our congregation, reach out to this month's primary caregiver, Julie Gans (914-830-0944, julieagans@gmail.com). You may also contact the CUUC office (admin@cucwp.org).
