What is something people do not know about you?
My major in college was Biology, having contemplated veterinary medicine. A river of music and liturgy swept me off with it and, at this point in time, I am 3 classes shy of Masters in Pastoral Studies. I have been a minister for 36 years. I am a life-long learner: any time not devoted to liturgy and music, and other responsibilities, is consumed by understanding horse and canine behavior, gardening and tree planting and the endeavor of changing how we relate to the earth we were entrusted to care for, and to the daily study of other languages (currently Spanish, German, Italian, Greek, Navajo, and Russian). We are created to be and do many things. Each of us are Leonardo da Vinci's.
What is your favorite scripture or prayer and why?
I have two and they will be read at my funeral:
Old Testament: Jeremiah 20: 7-9 "You duped me, O Lord, and I let myself be duped..."
Gospel: Matthew 11: 16-24 "To what can I compare..."
Jeremiah certainly didn't expect the difficulties he faced by doing what the Lord told him to do. Yet Jeremiah is compelled to comply. Being involved in ministry has challenging days. It is comforting to know that Jesus encountered difficulties (in a 'misery loves company' kind of way) with his own people, the leadership of the Jewish people, and even among his own best buds, the apostles.
Favorite Songs: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (sub in 'people' but it doesn't rhythmically work)
Good King Wenceslas
The lyrics will tell you why I choose them and the melody is bouncy.
What do you love most about your ministry/serving at St. Patrick?
My best day is to assist in creating a liturgy that flows, where people know the role they have volunteered for and are compelled to act as it; where people understand what the gathering of the faithful was all about; where the music speaks what the readings exhort us and lingers with the assembly as they, the living stones of our church, hum the songs heard during that Mass throughout the rest of the week.
