ROOTED IN FAITH, TRADITION, AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

We’ve had a busy month at 1000 Borgia Drive!

We celebrated Homecoming the week of October 6-12. The week was full of fun for all - a movie on the turf field, powderpuff, a bonfire, spirit days, and more! It was so fun seeing so much talent on display at our all-school assembly on Friday, including a special dance performance from the Starry Staff! We welcomed so many alumni home to our alumni BBQ at the football game, introduced our Homecoming court at halftime, and ended the wonderful week with the dance on Saturday.

In a special way, we got to honor our St. Francis Borgia graduate and longtime Borgia football coach, Dale Gildehaus '69, during Homecoming week. He served as our Grand Marshall in the parade and was honored before the football game for his 38 years as our head football coach.

His love for his players and his positive energy are seemingly boundless. We are so blessed to have him in the Borgia Family.

In the midst of all the Homecoming festivities, we celebrated the feast day of our patron saint, St. Francis Borgia, and Borgia Giving Day! Another day of highlighting all that makes our community special! I would love to extend my personal gratitude for all the monetary donations on Borgia Giving Day. Whether it’s in retaining excellent faculty members, supporting a family’s financial needs, or maintaining a top-notch campus, your gift makes it all possible.

October also saw the kick-off of our planning process for the 2025-2030 strategic plan. I am sure our President, Matt Schutte, will have more to say about that in the future, but it’s been a powerful opportunity to reflect on the past while planning for long-term success.

What a great day (month) to be a Knight!

St. Francis Borgia, pray for us.

ADVANCEMENT NEWS

BLUE AND GOLD BOOSTER CLUB

Supporting Our Students Beyond the Classroom

The Blue and Gold Boosters play a vital role in the St. Francis Borgia community by providing essential funding for our extracurricular clubs and activities. These clubs, which range from the newly formed Rosary Club to the Trap Shooting Team and the Environmental Club, enrich our students' educational experience, fostering teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.

Thanks to the Boosters, our students don't have to worry about extra fundraising for their club supplies, such as rosaries, clay targets, travel expenses for our theater department to the State competition, or scholarships toward the Missouri Association of Student Council's Summer Leadership Workshop. This support allows club members to focus on learning and having fun without the added pressure of raising money themselves.

But we could do so much more with additional support. With more funding, we could expand opportunities for our students—such as sending them on the Pro-Life Trip, helping our CLIF Team purchase religious items, hosting special retreats, or inviting Catholic speakers to inspire and enrich our students' spiritual lives. Your contribution could help make these incredible experiences possible!

Joining the Blue and Gold Boosters is easy and affordable. From February 15 to the end of the year, you can help make a lasting impact on our students' extracurricular experiences for just $60 per person. As a member, you'll also receive an invitation to our annual end-of-year party in March, at which we celebrate and honor the dedication of our Boosters and the difference they make.

Thank you to all the Boosters for your dedication to our students! With your continued and additional support, the possibilities are endless.

BORGIA GIVING DAY RAISES OVER $200,000

A Record-Breaking Success!

We are thrilled to announce that Borgia Giving Day raised more than $200,000, marking a significant achievement for our school community! This incredible success was made possible by the generosity of our Borgia Family, whose gifts will directly support our students, faculty, and programs. A portion of the funds raised will go toward providing essential tuition assistance to families in need, helping to make a Borgia education accessible to more students. This year’s Giving Day was a testament to the unity and dedication of our supporters. Thank you for making a lasting impact on St. Francis Borgia High School and helping us uphold our mission of forming students who are prepared to lead with faith and purpose.

St. Francis Borgia High School's Community Partners program provides a strategic platform for businesses to gain valuable marketing exposure while directly supporting the success of our students. This program is designed to offer significant marketing value throughout diverse multi-platform media channels, ensuring businesses receive authentic and compelling advertising opportunities. Through various sponsorship tiers, Borgia proudly provides local businesses with multiple advertising options.

Businesses participating in the Community Partners Program benefit in the following ways:

  • Supporting the mission of St. Francis Borgia High School
  • Gaining substantial exposure for their company or organization
  • Enjoying a simplified, once-a-year sponsorship process
  • Accessing exclusive perks, such as VIP event tickets

This sponsorship program connects businesses to a broad in-person and online network, reaching thousands within the Borgia community and beyond.

St. Francis Borgia High School is dedicated to making Catholic education accessible to all. However, the actual cost exceeds tuition by $3,092 per student, with 62% of our students receiving tuition assistance. The support of our donors and business partners is essential in bridging the $1.367 million budget gap.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our 2024-2025 Community Partners for their generous support and commitment to our school.

BORGIA ALUM SHINES IN WASHINGTON:

Maura Struckhoff '22 Lands Prestigious C-SPAN Fellowship

Maura Struckhoff, a proud member of the class of 2022 and now a student at Purdue University, made remarkable strides in Washington, D.C., this past summer. Selected as one of only four fellows from hundreds of applicants, Maura received a fully funded fellowship with the Center for C-SPAN. Throughout her internship at C-SPAN headquarters, she had front-row access to history, including attending Supreme Court sessions, engaging with members of Congress, and meeting Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Maura's experiences extended to working directly on high-profile events, such as the Republican National Convention, where her research and graphics were featured in C-SPAN broadcasts. She also conducted research for The Washington Journal, speaking with guests and playing a key role in daily programming. The internship culminated with a special visit to the White House press briefing room, where Maura observed press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s daily briefing, gaining an insider’s perspective as a full-access media member.

With law school on her horizon, Maura’s journey is just beginning, and we’re excited to see where her passion for public service and media will take her next!

Brother John Monzyk, C.P. '66,

on the Science of Prayer and Presence

Brother John Monzyk, C.P., a 1966 Borgia graduate, dedicates each day to communal prayer with fellow Passionists at Sacred Heart Monastery in Louisville, Kentucky. His routine centers on prayer and reflection, beginning with morning prayer and Mass and continuing with quiet moments throughout his day.

Having spent much of his life in science as a student and teacher, Brother John finds profound spiritual connections in the world around him. Reflecting on his calling, he says, “As a scientist, I realize God is a part of everything. At 75, I am still a part of this wonder called life, and that brings me a deep sense of wonderment.”

Brother John’s early life didn’t focus on open discussions of faith, but subtle moments left lasting impressions. He recalls a childhood memory when his mother, after finding a lost watch, stopped by a church to thank St. Anthony. These small acts of gratitude and faith have profoundly influenced his own view of prayer.

For Brother John, prayer is less about requests and more about thankfulness. “The big thing about prayer is not always getting your way,” he explains. “My stance in prayer is basically thanksgiving.” Whether in quiet moments after Mass or during his time in the Eucharist, Brother John stays close to his faith, appreciating the beauty in everyday life.

This reflection was originally published in The Passionists of Holy Cross Province Magazine, Fall 2024 edition.
