IN-PERSON & LIVE-STREAM WORSHIP
Sun Oct 30, 10:00am A Day for Remembering ~ Rev. Meredith Garmon

Halloween is, originally and traditionally, a time for remembering our hallowed ones. They live on in and through us -- whether we consciously recall them or not. Remembering them is a key part of knowing ourselves.

Child care begins at 9:45am. Religious Exploration classes and activities begin at 10:00am. The 1st-3rd, 4th-5th, and 6th-7th graders have classes; 8th-12th graders are setting up the Halloween party, which begins after RE in the red hallway.

We are no longer requiring proof of vaccination. We continue to require masks for those attending service in person.

IN-PERSON & LIVE-STREAM WORSHIP
Sun Nov 6, 10:00am Making Meaning and the Art of Navigating Chaos” ~ Rev. Lane L.Cobb, guest worship leader

Humans are existential animals - on a quest for enduring meaning. In an often chaotic and unordered universe, we want to know our place in the world. We want to know that what we do matters. But in a world where meaning is subjective, how can we know that our lives make a difference?

Messages from Ministry

Sun Oct 30, 10:00-11:15am
1st-3rd Grade: Room 33 in the yellow hallway with Laura S and Christine H. Signs of Our Faith curriculum, session 3, Our Faith is a Journey. Children learn that a covenant for being together is a sign of our faith. They make a covenant together, look for signs of covenanting in congregational life, and discover additional ways UUs support one another to build a faith that will give their lives meaning and purpose.
4th-5th Grade: Room 41 in the green hallway with Laura G and Lane C. Toolbox of Faith curriculum, session 2, Questioning (Magnifying Glass). The magnifying glass symbolizes questioning and looking deeper. This session focuses on the value of questioning assumptions and wondering, "Why?" The children hear about astronomer and Unitarian Maria Mitchell, who embodied the truth-seeking quality of Unitarian faith and examine assumptions that are being questioned in current events.
6th-7th Grade: Room 21 in the blue hallway (just for this week) with Gus C. Riddle and Mystery curriculum, session 4, Thinking of God. This session's Big Question is probably one of the first that pops into our minds when speaking of big questions. Is there a God? Youth whose families never discuss God may pray in time of need. Youth whose families teach and expect belief in God may yearn for concrete proof. UUs leave the question of God to individual consideration. Yet our faith offers much guidance to support youth and adults as they seek their own understandings.
8th-12th Grade: Red Hallway with Max T and Stevie C. Youth will decorate the rooms and set up the Halloween party, which begins after RE. 8th-9th grade OWL class does not meet this week.

Sun 30 Oct, During & After RE Classes
A beloved annual CUUC tradition continues this Sunday with the parade of Halloween costumes during the worship service. Bring out your ghouls, goblins, superheros and princesses! We can't wait to see your costumes! After RE, the Youth Group is hosting a Halloween party with treats, games, and glow sticks for making headbands, glasses, and other things you can wear to be more visible as you Trick-or-Treat on Monday. And there will be brains, creepy crawlies, and other spooky things! Mwahaha... 👻 🎃 🕸 🍬🍭🦇

This Sunday features music for a UU Day of Remembrance and a Halloween preview... Click here to read Adam Kent's blog post.

CUUC is launching a new Pastoral Associates program. Our Pastoral Associates, once they complete six training sessions, will be available to lend a caring ear and a supportive presence for those navigating life's transitions. The once-a-month trainings will be led by Rev. Meredith Garmon and Rev. Stevie Carmody, a UU minister who serves as the Emerging Adult Ministry Associate at the UUA, and is currently in process to become a Community Minister in Affiliation with CUUC. If you think you might like to be a pastoral associate, please see Rev. Meredith (minister@cucwp.org).
Journey Groups

Journey Groups are small-group monthly meetings on a different topic each month. In Journey Groups we explore our deepest values and inner voices. Together we can grow in depth and spiritual maturity by exploring together the significant issues on which religions at their best have always guided people to greater insight. If you're not in a Journey Group… it's not too late! Sign up at cucwp.org/journey-groups. The following 6 groups have openings:

ZOOM ONLY GROUPS:
3rd Wednesdays at 7:30pm, led by Tracy
4th Thursdays at 7:00pm, led by Tori

HYBRID GROUPS (meeting in-person, with Zoom availability):

Gratitudes

Many thanks to our skilled cooking crew and all the other volunteers who made last Sunday's Congregation Brunch both a heart-warming and belly-filling delight. We're grateful to have this festive opportunity back, a time to break bread together, strengthen old social connections, and create new ones. Our next Brunch is scheduled for Jan 15. Help us make it happen! To volunteer, contact Kate Colson (kac1161@gmail.com).

Facing Our Mortality Group

Facing Our Mortality Together, Tue Nov 1, 5:00pm, Zoom 7899
The pandemic made us more aware that we need to look at our mortality straight on and not put off what needs doing – like getting all our information organized for “in case.” It can be daunting to do this alone, so a group of us have been working together on end-of-life organizer workbooks, looking to Rev. Meredith for calm courage in this work. We’ll reconvene on Tue Nov 1 at 5:00pm on Zoom. If you are interested or have questions, call or email Karen Leahy (karenleahy101@gmail.com; 914-562-5608). Non-seniors welcome!
Next “Path to Our Future” Focus Group

Path to Our Future Focus Group, Wed Nov 2 (Online), 7:00-8:00pm, Zoom 6161
The CUUC Self-Assessment team invites you to attend our focus groups for deeper discussions about the priorities and direction we want for our congregation in the future. At our next meeting, we invite your input on how CUUC can increase and improve accessibility in all of its forms to meet the needs of current and future congregants. Contact: Terri Kung (madterri@gmail.com)

Upcoming Path to Our Future Focus Groups:
Sun Nov 6 (In Person), 11:45am, Room 11 - Nurturing each other in our spiritual journeys
Sun Nov 13 (In Person), 11:45am, Room 11 - Expanding diverse voices at CUUC
Sun Nov 20 (In Person), 11:45am, Room 11 - Topic TBD
Board Open House

Board Open House, Sun Nov 6, Fellowship Hall & Zoom 3131, after worship
The Board of Trustees will host a hybrid open house to update the congregation on key steps of the ministerial transition, as well as to answer questions from congregants. The Board will also provide an update on key strategic goals for 2022-2023. Contact: Creighton Cray (creighton.cray@gmail.com)
Environment on the Ballot

Your ballot will have an important proposition, endorsed unanimously by CUUC’s Environmental Practices Group. The New York State Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act of 2022 will be on the flip side of the ballot – be sure to flip the ballot over and vote on Proposition 1. We urge you to vote in favor. Early voting from Sat Oct 29 through Sun Nov 6 can be done in Westchester at ANY of the 23 designated early voting locations. Election day is Tue Nov 8 – only at your polling place. Please view and share these videos explaining Proposition 1:
Committee on Ministry

Committee on Ministry: Who Are We?
One of the questions that arose at the congregation workshop on Sat Sep 24 was conflict resolution. Not all may know that CUUC has a committee charged with the responsibility to initiate and oversee processes of reconciliation when there are conflicts between a CUUC member and another member – and that is the Committee on Ministry (CoM). The CoM grew out of a concern that the congregation often evaluated its professional minister but not itself, implying that the minister was responsible for the success or failure of the ministry, and that the minister, and not the congregation, owned the ministry. Since 2014, the CoM has carried out the review of four areas of ministry: Worship, Justice, Education, and Pastoral (congregational member) Care. Click here for a more detailed description of CoM responsibilities.

(1) Log in by 10:00am; (2) Click the chat icon (speech bubble with three dots inside); (3) Check that your chat is set to go to "Everyone"; (4) Type a greeting, like "Good Morning. Welcome to online worship at CUUC!"; (5) Invite newcomers to chat, "If this is your first time visiting, and you feel comfortable, please let us know who you are and where you are from"; (6) When someone types in the chat, you type a reply. When Talia types "Good morning!" you greet Talia with "Welcome, Talia. Thanks for joining us today!"; (7) That's it!
