Scripture Lesson

Luke 15:11-32

Then Jesus said, “There was a man who had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that will belong to me.’ So he divided his property between them. A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, and there he squandered his property in dissolute living. When he had spent everything, a severe famine took place throughout that country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed the pigs. He would gladly have filled himself with the pods that the pigs were eating; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands.”’ So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. Then the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly, bring out a robe—the best one—and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. And get the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ And they began to celebrate. “Now his elder son was in the field; and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. He called one of the slaves and asked what was going on. He replied, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has got him back safe and sound.’ Then he became angry and refused to go in. His father came out and began to plead with him. But he answered his father, ‘Listen! For all these years I have been working like a slave for you, and I have never disobeyed your command; yet you have never given me even a young goat so that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came back, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him!’ Then the father said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.’”

Family Introductions for Pastor Larry

As we prepare for a joyous season ahead with God - our hearts are focused on welcoming our new Senior Pastor - Larry Patton, his wife Faith, and their entire family to our church and community. He has provided a personal introductory message below. In turn, he would love to hear from you and your family - in your own words.

Let's celebrate by sharing our story. We encourage you to take a few moments to introduce your family to Pastor Larry. Feel free to share as the Holy Spirit leads. You can follow the same style that Larry has provided in his story below.

We know God is doing exciting and wondrous things in our church and beyond! Let's not only welcome Larry and his family - let's share our personal family story with them and embrace what God has already put into place.

Larry's Story - In His Own Words.

My name is Larry Patton. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area and moved to Atlanta for seminary at Emory University. I married Faith Roberts in 1997, and she and I both graduated with Master of Divinity degrees. We have 3 children, 2 girls and a boy. This is my 31st year in full time ministry in the Methodist Church. I transferred ordination to the Global Methodist Church on March 2nd of last year.

As hobbies, I enjoy jogging, music, aviation, sports (especially college football), and reading and studying the Bible and history.

My favorite thing about PFMC was the warmth, joy, and hospitality I experienced during the interview process. My favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight.

Our church directory is available to view on your mobile device! Instant Church Directory - the program we use to build our church directory - has a free app for church members to download. Go to the App Store on your phone. Search for Instant Church Directory. Download the app. Sign in with your email address and create your own password (you don’t need an administrative password to access the directory). Anytime updates are made to the directory, they will update on your device too. In the app, you will be able to search for church members' photos, and can call, email and text right from the app! Please check your information on the app and make sure it is correct. If you aren't able to log in, then we don't have your correct email address. The online directory is separate from the church database, so call the church office with any edits/changes to your contact info.

From the app, you can watch services live, get access to our digital newsletter, safely give your offerings to the church, check the full prayer list, read the Bible, check on upcoming events and so much more, right from your cell phone!

Download it today from Apple or Android app stores and type “Prattville First Methodist.” It only takes a few seconds, but will keep you better connected to all that is happening at the church, whether at home or on the go!
