Dear Friends of Notre Dame Preparatory School,

After 20 years leading Notre Dame Prep, Sister Patricia McCarron has decided this will be her final year as Head of School. We remain grateful and humbled by her outstanding service which places our school in a very strong position for the future.

Sister Patricia has overseen remarkable growth, lasting academic excellence, strong stewardship, and many physical improvements to our campus resulting in recognition and honors, including NDP twice being named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

As Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, we are writing to invite you to join with us in beginning our school’s next great chapter.

Head of School Search Committee

As the first step in a national search to identify our next Head of School, we are pleased to announce an outstanding Search Committee, selected by the Board of Trustees according to the requirements outlined in NDP’s bylaws.

This will be an inclusive and transparent process, providing opportunities for consultation and input from our entire community. We will communicate regularly while welcoming your feedback.

Additionally, this process will mark our school’s first transition to embrace lay leadership, as the School Sisters of Notre Dame have led the institution to remarkable growth since its humble beginning. We are committed to identifying a new leader who personifies the SSND charism, fully embraces our Catholic values, and shares our mission of educating and empowering girls to become women who transform the world.

The Search Committee consists of:

  • Lisa Stromberg, who will chair the Search Committee, is a former NDP Trustee as well as the immediate past Board Chair at Goucher College.
  • Delia Dowling, SSND is the Chair of the Sponsor Council for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Atlantic-Midwest Province, and the founding President of Sisters Academy of Baltimore.
  • Sydney Peterson Fortmann ’10 is an NDP Trustee Associate on the Strategic Planning Committee and an Associate at Gallagher, Evelius and Jones.
  • Kathleen Mahar is the retired President and Principal of Archbishop Spalding High School and served on the Board of Financial Administration for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Thomas Peri, a retired leader in Catholic education, taught at NDP for 20 years and serves as a eucharistic minister at St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley.
  • John Schiech is an NDP Trustee and retired President, DeWalt Power Tools.
  • Michelle DeSantis Shepherd ’84 is a retired Bank of America executive, Regent for Georgetown University, and former Board Chair of Tower Hill School.
  • Jennifer Brune Speargas ’92 is an NDP Trustee and Director, Legal, PayPal Inc.
  • Sherita Thomas is a Director of HR Operations, BGE, who also serves as a Trustee at Notre Dame of Maryland University.
  • Scott Wilfong is a former NDP Trustee and retired CEO of SunTrust (Truist) Greater Washington Region who has also served on the Board and Executive Committee for Catholic Charities.

These committee members represent a wealth of leadership, experience, and expertise and we are grateful for their willingness to selflessly serve our school during this important time.

What Is Next?

As the committee begins its work, the Board of Trustees will engage an experienced search firm to ensure that our national search identifies the best possible candidates. We will announce the selection of this search firm in the coming days. Working with this firm, the search committee will announce a series of opportunities for you to engage in the process.

In addition to sending updates by email, we will create a special Head of School Search webpage where all updates, schedules, and answers to frequently asked questions can be found in one place. Our objective is to complete this search process with ample time to transition and prepare for the beginning of the next school year.

We will be sharing more information with you in the days and weeks to come to keep you apprised of our progress. We appreciate the trust that has been placed in us to help guide our school community into this next era and are grateful for your support for our beloved Notre Dame Prep as we choose its next leader.

Sincerely,

Jane Forni, SSND, Ed.D.
