Early February 2024

Neighborhood Trivia Night at Taberna was a success! There were teams from CIDNA, West Maka Ska and other nearby neighborhoods. The best part was neighbors connecting with neighbors. Thank you to Taberna for hosting us, and to West Maka Ska for partnering with us.

South Cedar Point Restoration

Volunteer Project Update

Our restoration focus area for 2023 was beginning on the peninsula shown in the map you see here. This area includes the historic managed natural landscape by the dock, the hillside north of the gravel path and the borders of the upper lawn.

We are networking with volunteers in other volunteer restoration areas to make certain our restorations are grounded in the science of restoration ecology. You may have noticed the additional work being done at Point Beach, by the Brownie Channel, and west of South Beach.

Working under a Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Stewardship Agreement we have been restoring our area for six years. We work with MPRB commissioners to make certain volunteers at these volunteer restoration areas are properly supported. Our commissioner, Elizabeth Shaffer has been steadfast in her very effective support.

The native grass and wildflower seeds we have sown over the years are flourishing. We hope you enjoy the wildflowers blooming spring, summer and fall!

See you at the lake,

Mark Schmidt
