If Only I . . .

The 19^th century poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, wrote the following during line during a difficult time in his life: “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.” His words came to mind while I was reading the seventh chapter of John’s Gospel where Nicodemus is mentioned and reminds his colleagues in the Sanhedrin that Jewish Law requires that a person be heard before being judged (Jn 7:50-51)...
