1. How has UCSD been a home to you?
Since coming to UCSD in 2014, I haven't left! I have found a home at UCSD through places like the ITRC and the Cross-Cultural Center, where I work now. I am also so thankful for the Native community at UCSD both NAISA and AIFSA, who have provided me with support during the hard times and have been there to celebrate the good times too! While things can sometimes be challenging, UCSD has provided me with a strong community of support, and many fun memories like going to the zoo with the native community last fall!
2. What advice would you give to Native students thinking about pursuing higher education?
For so many of us, we have experienced being the only Native person in the room, and/or the first in our family to go to college, but you are not alone! As hard as things may get, never forget that you have support from so many places around campus, and if you are lost on where to go start with somewhere like the ITRC! (Which is advice #2- come hang out at the community centers like the ITRC, and the CCC! They are great places to chill and make new friends!)
3. What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy reading (mostly horror and thrillers), playing video and board games, doing puzzles, and exploring San Diego! I especially love going to the zoo and the beach (when it's warmer). I highly encourage folks to explore San Diego as you can, its so huge and we are so close to amazing places like Joshua Tree and Anza Borrego.
