GP&L 100th Anniversary Thank You Garland Celebration Saturday, April 15

 

From the moment Garland Power & Light flipped the switch on April 1, 1923, it has had the Garland community at heart. So as GP&L marks the first 100 years of its journey, it’s only fitting that all of Garland joins the celebration.


GP&L’s 100th Anniversary Thank You Garland Celebration will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Winters Park Amphitheater, 1419 Spring Creek Drive. Live Music All Summer Kicks Off in Downtown Garland!

Band Together on the Square Concert Series Returns Friday, April 14


Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe. Join us every Friday evening from May through July for one of the best concert series of the summer!


Our series starts at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14, at 506 Art (506 Main St.), featuring September Moon. Be sure to explore Downtown Garland's fabulous array of eateries and shops before and after the show!

Garland Symphony Orchestra Friday, April 14

 

The Garland Symphony Orchestra continues its exciting "Music that Grows on You" season with guitarist Jacob Cordover at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Art of Party Featuring Emerald City Band All Stars Friday, April 21


Join the Garland Cultural Arts Commission Inc. (GCAC) for The Art of Party, an evening with the Emerald City Band All Stars, at 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.


Put the "fun" in fundraiser as you dance to everyone’s favorite party band and enjoy complimentary nibbles and a cash bar. All proceeds benefit GCAC, a nonprofit supporting Garland arts and artists since 1987.

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Kicks Off Friday, May 5


Garland’s free Sounds of Summer Concert Series returns with 7 p.m. events every other Friday from May 5 through June 30.

 

The City is proud to feature lively artists and entertainers who are sure to get you dancing in Audubon and Winters parks.

Rain Barrel Sale Ends Wednesday, April 12

 

The City of Garland Water Utilities Department is offering an opportunity to purchase rain barrels at a discounted price. Through a cooperative purchase, the classic black, 50-gallon Ivy rain barrel is available for $78 each (normal retail price is $143).

 

Barrels must be ordered by 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, and must be picked up from Garland Water Operations, 2343 Forest Lane, between 3 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, or Wednesday, April 26. Bring a vehicle large enough to carry your order on pickup day. Order yours today!

Recycle Q&A Session Thursday, April 13


Residents are invited to attend a Q&A session and learn more about our recycling program from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.


There will be a short presentation at 6 p.m. with Q&A time before and after. Learn about the Waste Wizard, what happens to recycling after it’s collected and more. Plus, sign up for a free cart audit!

Mystery Book Club at the Library


Adults who love mysteries and thrillers are invited to join the library's Mystery Book Club. This club meets at 6 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month. No registration is required. 


This month, the club will discuss "The Dry" by Jane Harper at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the North Garland Branch Library, 3845 N. Garland Ave.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Flu Shots and Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Available at Garland Public Health Clinic

This year's flu vaccine and the bivalent COVID-19 booster are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic. Flu shots are available for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available. It is recommended that individuals wait at least two months after completion of the primary COVID vaccination series or their most recent booster. For full eligibility information, visit GarlandTX.gov. Both vaccinations are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Garland Youth Council Accepting Applications Through Friday, June 2
