The next meeting of the 14th District Police Council is tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Humboldt Park library after the volunteer community committee meeting at 11:30 a.m. The Tribune recently wrote an article on these new district committees. Residents are able to speak at both meetings about crime issues in the district, including the ongoing issues with armed robberies and carjackings.

Police Alert - Multiple Armed Robberies

Police Bulletin Listed Below

This alert gives notice of armed robberies that occurred yesterday morning in Bucktown. Four masked male black offenders, who exited a gray Dodge Durango SUV with no license plates on the front or rear of the vehicle, committed armed robberies against several residents. The robberies happened between 6:00 a.m. and 6:27 a.m. None of the offenders have been caught. The vehicle used in the robberies was seen on the city police pod cameras in the area but had no plates.

If you see suspicious activity, such as a group like this (see photos below) in or out of a vehicle at any time, call 911 and ask for police assistance. If you have any video or information regarding the robberies, please share with detectives working the cases at 312-746-7394, call the 14th CAPS office at 312-744-8290, or email Sgt. Mike Edens at CAPS.014District@chicagopolice.org.

Vehicle Safety Engagement THIS WEEKEND!

Street Sweeping

Next week, street sweeping will occur in sections 13, 14, and 15 (Lincoln Park and Bucktown). Please be on the lookout for signs and make sure to move your vehicle on your scheduled day (south and east sides of the street are normally done on the first day, north and west on the second; please watch for signs).

Sweepers will do more than one pass on the block in their initial cleaning, but will not come back to clean sections outside of their officially scheduled day. Please take the time to help clear the curb in front of your property to keep the sewers flowing well. Any leftover landscaping debris from winter months should be bagged and put in the alley by your trash cans. Please do not sweep landscaping debris into the street. Piles of leaves and heavy garbage also clog the sweepers and will cause significant delays. Other large objects like branches and metal will also damage the sweepers, so please remove them from curbs.

Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool.

31st Street Over the Ryan Repairs Have Begun

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying 31st Street over the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90/94) in Chicago has started.

To complete the work, 31st Street will be closed at the bridge. Drivers should follow the posted detour. The public should also expect occasional overnight lane closures on the Ryan at 31st Street. Pedestrian and bicycle access will be maintained.

The project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck and approaches, replacing expansion joints and installing a new deck overlay, is anticipated to be completed in early August.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternative routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
