How would you change the church?

May 10 and 11

While the church seems steeped in tradition, the truth is, it’s always changing. If you’d like insights into the way the Church is – and could be – changing, or if you have thoughts you’d like to share, The Church as Movement is an event you won't want to miss.

The Dioceses of Virginia and Southern Virginia have come together to co-sponsor a free two-day conference for anyone interested in church planting, church revitalization, or shifting the paradigms of existing churches from one of attraction to one centered on mission and discipleship. Author, speaker, and National Director of the V3 Church Planting Movement, JR Woodward, will invite us to consider why our current paradigms of Church need to change and offer guidance on ways to bring about such change. To learn more about V3 Church Planting Movement go here.

This conference will provide space to pray, dream, and discern how God may be calling you to think of and be the Church differently within your own Episcopal context. Individuals (both lay and ordained) and church groups are invited to attend.

The conference is free with registration.

Help us Celebrate

the teachers at

St. James’s Children’s Center.

The teachers at SJCC are a dedicated, creative and loving group of professionals! As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to thank them for the invaluable work they do. So, we’re putting on a breakfast this coming Monday, May 6, at 8 am in the atrium in Gibson Hall.

And we're inviting every parishioner at St. James's to contribute.

To donate food, juice, or flowers, click here.

Donations can also be brought to church on Sunday, May 5 and left in the Michaux House kitchen. THANKS!

Join us tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Valentine Hall to celebrate 20 years of WomanKind. In addition to the party, we'll also be announcing the 2026 Conference dates, theme, and speaker. Tickets will be available at the door.

We’re looking for Chaperones

for our Summer Youth Missions trips.

No experience or organizational skills required. Just bring your suitcase and your enthusiasm, we’ll do (and pay for!) the rest.

There are two trips you can chaperone:

  • Youth (grades 9-12) trip to Hurley, VA from June 22-28 to work in a community food bank and help residents with necessary home repairs.
  • Youth (grades 5-8) traveling to the Eastern Shore from July 14-17 to glean (pick) crops for local food banks and participate in hunger education (while also having fun at camp!).

For more information and to sign up to chaperone, go here.

Or talk to Katie Ricard.

A final chance to get

together before Summer.

We're squeezing in a final Youth Social before summer begins. Join us on Sunday, June 2 from 12 - 4 pm for a zip line and ropes course at Canopy Adventures.

To register, click here. Cost is $40.

We're in need of chaperones and parent drivers for this trip. All chaperones will be paid for by St. James's.

The Bishop is coming

to St. James’s

The Bishop is making his yearly visit to St. James’s on Sunday, May 19.

This Sunday, between the services, Amelia and Blake will lead an adult forum about what happens when the bishop comes for his yearly visit, including confirmation, baptism, and how the bishop fits into our church structure.

The elevator is still out of service.

We were delighted to re-open the elevator for Easter. But there are still some cosmetic changes that need doing, so the elevator will be out of order for the next few weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience.
