How would you change the church?
May 10 and 11
While the church seems steeped in tradition, the truth is, it’s always changing. If you’d like insights into the way the Church is – and could be – changing, or if you have thoughts you’d like to share, The Church as Movement is an event you won't want to miss.
The Dioceses of Virginia and Southern Virginia have come together to co-sponsor a free two-day conference for anyone interested in church planting, church revitalization, or shifting the paradigms of existing churches from one of attraction to one centered on mission and discipleship. Author, speaker, and National Director of the V3 Church Planting Movement, JR Woodward, will invite us to consider why our current paradigms of Church need to change and offer guidance on ways to bring about such change. To learn more about V3 Church Planting Movement go here.
This conference will provide space to pray, dream, and discern how God may be calling you to think of and be the Church differently within your own Episcopal context. Individuals (both lay and ordained) and church groups are invited to attend.
The conference is free with registration.

And we're inviting every parishioner at St. James's to contribute.

No experience or organizational skills required. Just bring your suitcase and your enthusiasm, we’ll do (and pay for!) the rest.
There are two trips you can chaperone:
- Youth (grades 9-12) trip to Hurley, VA from June 22-28 to work in a community food bank and help residents with necessary home repairs.
- Youth (grades 5-8) traveling to the Eastern Shore from July 14-17 to glean (pick) crops for local food banks and participate in hunger education (while also having fun at camp!).
For more information and to sign up to chaperone, go here.
Or talk to Katie Ricard.

to St. James’s
The Bishop is making his yearly visit to St. James’s on Sunday, May 19.
This Sunday, between the services, Amelia and Blake will lead an adult forum about what happens when the bishop comes for his yearly visit, including confirmation, baptism, and how the bishop fits into our church structure.

The elevator is still out of service.
We were delighted to re-open the elevator for Easter. But there are still some cosmetic changes that need doing, so the elevator will be out of order for the next few weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience.

you've come this far, might as well read the final story. | |
