PASTOR'S PAGE

Good people,

It was wonderful to see so many of you in worship last Sunday! Thank you for the warm reception and kind hospitality extended to my family and friends! I met some of you for the first time this week, and I appreciate you wearing your name tags until I learn everyone’s name. Over the coming weeks (and into the summer months), I’d like to meet with you to share our stories. I’d love to hear about your personal history, your history with the church, and your hopes for its future. I’ll be pleased to answer any questions you may have about me and my ministry. We can meet in my office, go out for coffee or lunch or even go for a walk. I would also be happy to meet with you in your home. Whatever your preference, please know that I am happy to meet with you individually, as couples, as families, or any combination.

The best way to schedule a date and time is to call the church office and leave a message or email me at revmichaelfrady@gmail.com. I prefer not to publish my cell phone number, but will gladly exchange numbers with you when we meet – I want you to be able to contact me quickly in case of emergencies.

Initially, my office hours will fluctuate, so it’s always best to let me know when you’re coming. I will often be working in town, but out of the office and don’t want to miss your visit. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days to get my undivided attention. Mondays and Tuesdays are devoted to research, sermon writing, and preparation for church meetings and programs. I will be alternating working from home on Mondays and Tuesdays. Of course, you can always catch me on Sundays!

This Sunday, I’ll be addressing our relationship as pastor and church in a sermon titled “The Good Shepherd.” Based on readings from Ezekiel 34 and John 10, my message will consider who pastors are and what we do. Here’s my sermon in a sentence: Pastors are like sheep dogs, tuned into the direction of the Good Shepherd, guiding God’s sheep to him and to where he wishes them to go. There’s more! So, be sure to attend worship on Sunday!

I look forward to seeing you and to meeting any family members or friends you want to bring along! Until then, be well and God bless you!

Pastor Michael

Would you like to donate flowers for the altar some Sunday morning in memory of a special person or in celebration of an event and then take home to enjoy the rest of the week? Contact a member of the Flower Committee or use the sign up sheet posted outside of the church office.

Hospitality is looking for another set of hands to help out at coffee hour May 5-19. This would require arriving early to church at 9:15 am to set up and get the coffee perking. If you can help, please contact Mary Jackson at

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church Memorials and Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the winners of our 2024 scholarship awards. We had applications from 16 area students, all with impressive scholastic achievements.

Rylie Coughlin, a student at Old Rochester Regional High School, is the recipient of the $2,500 Dagmar Coquillette Scholarship, Jaymison Gunschel, a student at Old Rochester Regional High School, is the recipient of the $2,500 Memorial Scholarship.

We have awarded a $1,000 Memorial Scholarship to: Sophia Meninno, a student at Bishop Stang. Both Rylie and Sophia are members of our church family. Our recipients have been invited to the May 12th church service to accept their awards.

Do you like to sing? Would you like to sing for the Lord?

We are always looking for new choir members, and we welcome anyone to come to Choir Rehearsal at 9:15 on Sunday morning in the Sanctuary to try us out for a few weeks, and hopefully stay! Being able to read music is not a pre-requisite,just a desire to "Sing a new Song to the Lord".

FAITH FORMATION CORNER

Sunday School meets every Sunday at 10 am in the Family Room, however, there is no Sunday School scheduled for May 12.

Last Sunday, the children in Sunday School listened to stories about Jesus and the Golden rule. They made kindness boxes to take home after sharing kind remarks with each other. It was a beautiful day.

Please reach out to Carolyn Pawlishen if you're interested in having your child or grandchild be a part of our Sunday School! You may reach Carolyn at MCCsundayschool1736@gmail.com or feel free to chat with her at church on Sunday.

Missions continues to collect shoes and new socks for Dr. Fogg’s foot clinic. Donation bins are located in Reynard Hall. Food donations may be brought to the Council on Aging. Warm winter clothing donations will resume in the fall.

Beacon of Light

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church’s steeple is lit nightly and is a beacon of welcome and comfort to all.

The Beacon of Light is lit for the month of May by Betty and Drew Hill in loving memory of Sheldon Hill.

Would you like the steeple to be lit in remembrance of, in celebration of, or in honor of a loved one or blessed event? Your memorial will be published in the weekly Spiritually Speaking newsletter.

Make a donation in any amount to the Mattapoisett Congregational Church and note on the memo line, “Beacon of Light”. You may mail your check to P.O. Box 284, Mattapoisett or drop in the collection plate on Sunday. Click here to download and print the form or call the church office and let Tina know how you would like your memorial worded.

Thank you for your donation!

We continue to keep friends and members of the church who are homebound or in need of healing in our prayers. We also pray for all men and women serving in our military. Please let Tina in our office know if there are names you wish us to add to the church’s prayer list (only with their permission).

Please pray for:

Liz Brimm, David Clark, Pat Cole, Tracy Djerf, Drew Hill, Peg Olney and Solange

Home Visits are Back!

Now is the time to engage each other as a church family and community and get back to visiting, calling or sending notes to members who might appreciate this outreach from their church family.

If you would like to be part of the group and share your time with other members, or if you would like to be contacted or know someone that would enjoy a visit, call or note, please contact Lisa Hill at hill4747@comcast.net or Tina in the office.

Would you like to read the responsive Call to Worship and the Scripture on a Sunday morning? The readings are provided in advance for review.

Thank you to Al Meninno who read last Sunday.

Please contact the church office if you would like to be a part of the Sunday worship service and be added to the rotating list of readers.
