From Mr. Kigeya

Hello Regent scholars,

Today marks an important point for us at Madison West.  First, this week is the midpoint for the first semester.  Additionally, today is also Election Day, both state and national.  Traditionally, West has served as a polling place, and this year despite construction we’ll continue to be an election site.  The polling place is located in the new Van Hise wing of the building.  Scholars - let’s be mindful of community members as they exercise their civic responsibilities.

Also, I would like to personally extend a special shout-out to Carrie Bohman and our Madison West scholars from the West Sifting and Winnowing  club. This past Friday, our West scholars along with the support of Ms Bohman and others held a panel that included the voices of local and state community leaders.  Hundreds of West scholars were in attendance and I’m sure left feeling inspired.

Lastly, as we reflect on the privilege of living in a free society, let's not forget those individuals that habited our lands and spaces before us.  This month is Native American history month and at West we prioritize celebrating the deep and rich history of the indigenous peoples of America.  As you make your way through the breezeway on the second floor, stop and view the student work highlighting Native American culture and history - you’ll see more and more artifacts as the month goes on.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kigeya

Upcoming Career Panels

Students, have you considered a career in management, engineering, architecture, or a trade?  West is hosting 3 separate career panels at lunch in the counseling office on Tuesdays in November. Each week has a different focus. These panels will connect you with a wide range of professionals working in a variety of fields connected to construction. Industry professionals will share details about their job, training requirements, and compensation. This is an excellent opportunity to learn, network, and have your questions answered. Check out the flier for details about this exciting collaboration with Findorff. Email Sarah Quinn with any questions.
