Hello Members!
I’m excited to share news of two recent grants that will greatly benefit our “Art & the Human Brain” series. The first grant, generously provided by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Gould Family Trust Foundation, amounts to $2500. With this support, we’re gearing up to launch a special Veteran’s art program, which we’re currently scheduling for either this July or later in the fall, depending on availability. This grant will fund a 2D art class tailored to up to 15 veterans, offering them the opportunity to either learn to paint or further refine their existing skills. We firmly believe in the healing power of art, and the Visual Arts Center is honored to contribute to the wellness of our community through artistic expression.
Our second grant comes from Samaritan Counseling Services, with whom we’ve collaborated on a broader initiative aimed at aiding those in our community who are still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. As part of this initiative, we’ll be organizing a 6-week painting class specifically for individuals affected by Hurricane Ian, providing them with a platform to create a meaningful piece of art. Upon completion of their work, we’ll host a special reception where their art will be available for sale, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the artists to assist in their recovery efforts. Be sure to keep an eye on our monthly and special edition newsletters for updates on the timing of this event.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, the Gould Family Trust Foundation, and the Samaritan Counseling Services for their generous support, which allows us to continue our mission to inspire, explore, create, and promote the visual arts within our community.
Cheers,
Lisa
