Scouts "Trash the Trash" Day --- Saturday, May 4

A "Messengers of Peace" Global Service Project

Scouts Trash the Trash Day is an international Messengers of Peace service project for Scouts around the world, where each Scout is challenged to bring a friend or family member along and pick up at least one Kilo (2.2 pounds) of trash for each person on the first Saturday in May.

The idea for Scouts Trash the Trash Day came from the Scouts of Helena Montana Troop 1206 after realizing that there are several days throughout the year that Scouts get together and do the same thing on the same day. Other Days like Jamboree on the Air and Internet, Jamboree on the Trail and World Neckerchief Day already exist, but there was not a day for Scouts to all get together and clean up their communities. Scouts are asked to bring a non-Scout friend with them on this day of service in order to double the impact of their trash cleaning effort. Scouts Trash the Trash Day is about more than just cleaning our planet, it is a day to show the world what Scouting is about, educate individuals about Scouting and recruit new boys, girls and adults into the Scouting movement!

Venture Crew 333 Fundraiser Dinner --- Saturday, May 11

Venture Crew 333 is a Marin Council based unit with Scouts from around the Bay Area and a unique focus on international travel to exciting locations. Last June, Crew 333 went to the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) high-adventure base in Kandersteg, Switzerland, and toured around that beautiful alpine country. Several members also attended the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea last August. This July, Crew 333 is traveling to New York City on the way to Toronto, Canada and then north in Ontario Province to the Algonquin Park to explore the amazing backcountry there by canoe paddling!

The Crew is holding a fundraiser spaghetti dinner on Saturday, May 11 from 6-8pm at Marin Country Mart in Larkspur across from the Ferry Terminal Landing. In addition to the fabulous cooking by Crew Advisor Willy Coronado and his youth team, this annual event will have a fun silent auction including gift baskets, gift certificates and some rare Scouting patches.

Please join us for a nice evening overlooking the Larkspur Ferry Landing. Tickets are only $25 ($15 for children under 12) and are a great way to support Venture Crew 333 with their international adventures! Pay at the door or contact Willy Coronado by email to purchase tickets today!

A Good Turn Weekend for Camp Tamarancho --- May 17-19

The Marin Council Camping & Properties Committees invite your Scouts BSA youth and troop leaders to join dedicated volunteers in giving back to the local Camp Tamarancho we all love and adore by "doing a good turn" with camp service projects. It's been almost a year now since the Iron Springs Road landslide effectively shut down our beautiful property to daily vehicular traffic. Hike in with your unit Scouts and CAMP for FREE for the weekend and give back to Tamarancho, helping us beautify the property by cleaning up brush and downed trees in campsite areas, improving road maintenance by filling potholes, clearing the pond dam of unwanted vegetation, completing new waterlines at Sunrise & Shady Bend campsites, and rebuilding Pioneer campsite near the center of camp into a vision of the future!

Camping is only $10 per troop sign-up to cover the sign-up, and Saturday lunch and evening crackerbarrel will be provided for everyone who registers in advance. Patrol boxes are staged in the campsites, but Ranger AJ can be available to truck any troop gear up the hill from Fairfax village while you are hiking in. Please register your unit by emailing District Exec MJ Andrews. Let's be proud of our amazing resource and make Tamarancho great again!

BSA Annual Health & Medical Record Forms --- Plan Ahead!

This is a friendly reminder to complete your BSA Annual Health & Medical Record (AHMR) soon before partaking in Summer adventures. To participate in any Scouting activities and campouts, all Scout youth and adult Scouters must complete the AHMR; parts A&B for day or wknd events (for youth it must be signed by a parent), OR parts A/B/C (must be reviewed with approval signature by a physician) for any events longer than 72 hrs including all Summer Camp weeks and high-adventure treks. Find our more details or download a fillable.pdf version here, and don't delay scheduling an appointment with your physician as these can take several weeks to arrange!

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

June 16-22 at Camp Tamarancho

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an intensive week-long BSA leadership training

course conducted in an outdoor setting. As members of an NYLT patrol, Scouts BSA and

Venturing youth learn the tools of leadership, communication, problem solving, ethical

decision-making and much more --- experiencing the Patrol Method of Scouting first-hand while they camp, cook, eat, work and learn together.

NYLT is a six-day course held June 16-22, 2024 at Camp Tamarancho. It is recommended that all youth have participated in Scout camping at least one year. NYLT is not an outdoor skills course specifically, so it is important that each participant have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience. Click here for more information and to register your Scout, or contact NYLT Course Director Erik Masterson by email!
