MOSES ARGUES WITH GOD

We saw from Lesson 4 that in Exodus 3:11, 13, that Moses questioned God’s commission of him to deliver Israel from Egyptian slavery. God promised a sign that upon leaving Egypt, they would worship God at this same mountain where he was now seeing the burning bush. God then in verses 15-22 proceeded to give Moses specific instructions.

Moses again objected to his call as we see in chapter 4 of Exodus. He told God that the Hebrews would not even believe him. He lacked faith. God then gave him three miracle signs to build his faith. The first was casting his rod on the ground where it became a snake. Then when he picked up the snake it turned back into the rod. Then God told Moses to put his hand into his bosom, and when he did it became leprous.  God told him to put it back in again, and it became clean. Then God told him that if they did not believe those two signs that he was to take water from the river and pour it upon dry ground and it would become blood.

These three miracles finally convinced Moses that this Jehovah Elohiym could in fact perform mighty feats. This built Moses’ faith.

But Moses still had another objection to doing what God had instructed. He pointed out that he could not speak well. In verse 10 Moses said, “…I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.” Some have thought he either had a speech impediment or was a stutterer. How was he to talk to Pharaoh?

Isn’t that just like many of us when asked to do something? We use weakness, faults, or inabilities to dodge a task, but where we are weak, God is strong. He does not need to call the talented or gifted ones to His service. He will equip the called to do His work. This way, He gets the glory instead of a person getting credit for their human talents. God does not share His glory with any person.

God overcame Moses’ final objection by telling him that his brother Aaron would be His mouthpiece. With that promise, Moses returned home to Jethro and told him what God had appointed him to do. Jethro gave him leave to go to Egypt (verse 18).

OUR PRAISE REMOVES BONDAGE

Often in scripture we see different prophets and apostles beaten, stoned, and bound in chains in prison. One particular story in scripture is about Paul and Silas as told in Acts 16:16-34. 

They had been teaching in the city of Thyatira and a demon possessed woman kept following them. She spoke flatteries over them, but it was not God speaking through her. After so many days, Paul commanded that spirit to leave her, and it came out.

The problem was she was making money for her masters. You could say she was a type of psychic with a spirit of divination, receiving her information from demons rather than God. Now her masters were cut off from this income and they did not like it. Her masters made a stir and Paul and Silas were arrested. After being beaten, they were thrown into the inner prison where they were bound in chains.

Most of us would say, “Lord, why? What did I do wrong to be put in this place?” But not Paul or Silas. In verse 25 it says, “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” This praise was so profound that it caused an earthquake, and their chains fell off. Then they had the opportunity to be a witness to the keeper of the prison and their family and they received salvation. Then, the next day they were released from prison. Oh, what a mighty move of God!

When God is glorified in our lives, no matter what the circumstances we may find ourselves in, He will move on our behalf. Instead of questioning why we are in a hard place, let your praise ring forth and watch God remove the bondage. If it worked for Paul and Silas, it will also work for you and me!

I see many days of persecution coming for the true remnant of Christ. We must stay focused on God even in the hard times that will come. Let your praise be the weapon that frees you from any bondage that the adversary may bring into your life.!

Perhaps we all could work on our own patience; And then just maybe we would not be so quick to notice other people’s lack of exercising their patience to us and to others.

Friday Thought For Today

Do you have aught against your friend or acquaintance, anyone? Are you holding a grudge? Do you refuse to look at that person when you see them because you are “put out” with them? Do you feel like you were slighted in some way by your friend?

God spoke to me in church and said this: “Look around you, these are your brothers and sisters. These are the people you will be spending eternity with in heaven. My grace and mercy is for all. This is the time and hour to make amends to one another. Time is fleeting.”



Yes, this morning He was talking about relationships with our brothers and sisters in the church. But really this applies to everyone in our lives. It is not alright with God if we do not make amends with each other. We have no guarantee of tomorrow. So hasten to reconcile with one another.

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
