Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?
Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Author Mary Casanova will be visiting the Plum Creek Library System and SWMN schools from March 18-28. She will be visiting the Marshall Library on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
Mary Casanova is an award-winning children’s author of novels and picture books. Many of her books stem from her life on the Minnesota-Canadian border; others stories have taken her as far away as France, Belize, and Norway. Whatever the setting for her books, Casanova writes stories that matter--and books that kids can’t put down.
Her book awards include the American Library Association “Notable,” Aesop Accolades by the American Folklore Society, Parents’ Choice “Gold” Award, Booklist Editor Choice, and two Minnesota Book Awards. Voted on by children, her books frequently land on state children’s book master lists across the country. “The greatest reward for me,” Casanova states, “is when a young reader tells me they love one of my books.”

Small Business Administration Host Webinar on Assistance for Businesses Impacted by Lack of Snow
This Friday, March 15, Small Business Administration (SBA) officials will host a webinar for small business owners interested in applying for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) in response to winter’s lack of precipitation.
Last week, Governor Walz urged Minnesota businesses hurt by this winter’s historic weather to apply for SBA loans, available because of ongoing federal drought declarations affecting 81 Minnesota counties.
The loans are designed to help businesses get through emergency situations that have impacted their economic well-being. Under the EIDL program, businesses can borrow up to $2 million to cover their actual losses. Businesses pay no interest on the loan for the first year and a maximum rate of 4% for the rest of the loan period.
Business owners can learn more about eligibility, find an application and learn more about application deadlines for their county at the SBA's disaster assistance page.
SBA’s information session will provide updated information on how to locate the disaster declaration, apply for the assistance and use of loan proceeds.
Details:
What: Join the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience and the Minnesota District Office for an information session on the recent declaration announced by Governor Walz. This webinar will provide updated information on how to locate the disaster declaration, apply for the assistance and use of loan proceeds.
When: Friday, March 15 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. CDT
Where: Online event. Register here.

Vendors Wanted for Community Health & Wellness Fair
Boulder Estates will be celebrating “Older American’s Month” this year by having a community health and wellness fair. The 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. We would love to have many vendors from our surrounding community to give resources and education to our tenants and invite other senior communities to attend as well.
This event will be held Friday, May 3rd 2:00pm-4:00pm in our Boulder Estates Dining room. We would like to start out by doing a Vendor “Spotlight” giving each vendor 5-8 minutes to talk about his or her organization/products. We will provide tables and chairs, feel free to bring your own if you desire. Vendors would be in charge of managing their “table/booth” for duration of the program. It would be the vendor’s choice to hand out samples, prizes, and information to share with the community.
We hope you will be a part of our Community Health and Wellness fair. Please RSVP if you are able to attend or have any questions to Monica Amaya at 507-537-2411 or email monica@boulderestates.org by Friday, April 5th. Let us know if you would prefer a long large table or small round for your booth.

Governor Walz Urges Small Businesses Impacted by Lack of Snow to Apply for Business Assistance
[ST. PAUL, MN] – As Minnesota continues to face record-high winter temperatures, Governor Tim Walz today announced that Minnesota has unlocked federal funding for small businesses impacted by this winter’s historic drought conditions. Amid the warmest winter on record, federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available because of ongoing federal drought declarations affecting 81 Minnesota counties. Governor Walz urges small business owners to apply for assistance as soon as possible.
“From skiing and snowshoeing to winter festivals, snowy winters are part of our way of life in Minnesota. The low precipitation we’ve experienced this winter has had a real economic impact on small businesses that rely on snow and winter tourism to grow and survive,” said Governor Walz. “I encourage all impacted business owners to apply for assistance as soon as possible.”
From December to February, Minnesota experienced the warmest meteorological winter on record. Through February 29th, there has only been 14.3” of snow in the Twin Cities, the second-lowest season total on record. In Duluth, only 15.7” snow has fallen, with an average snow depth of 1.8” – both among the five lowest measures on record. This lack of precipitation has exacerbated an ongoing drought. Eighty one counties in Minnesota are currently covered by U.S. Department of Agriculture disaster declarations for drought.
Impacted businesses in counties with a drought declaration can apply for the Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) through the Small Business Administration (SBA). The loans are designed to help businesses get through emergency situations that have impacted their economic well-being. Under the EIDL program, businesses can borrow up to $2 million to cover their actual losses. Businesses pay no interest on the loan for the first year and a maximum rate of four percent for the rest of the loan period. In order to take advantage of the program, businesses must apply by the application deadline for their county, listed below.
There are 81 counties in Minnesota covered by 13 disaster declarations. Business owners can learn more about eligibility, find an application, and learn more about application deadlines for their county at the SBA’s disaster assistance page.
Businesses impacted by a lack of precipitation will enter their county’s name and see a list of all open disasters for their county. They should pick one where the incident includes “drought.”
Submit applications and find additional disaster assistance information at https://lending.sba.gov. Applicants may also contact Minnesota’s Small Business Development Centers and SBA’s Customer Service Center at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. You can also call 800-659-2955 from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.

‘Who Powers You’ Contest Nominations Now Being Accepted
Nominations are now open for “Who Powers You,” a contest being hosted by the region’s Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives. The second annual Who Powers You contest seeks to highlight local figures who are making a difference in their communities.
“No one succeeds alone, and that is especially true in rural areas, where friends and neighbors in tight-knit communities support, encourage and inspire each other,” said Chris Studer of East River Electric Cooperative. “Those people don’t do it for the recognition, but they deserve to be recognized, and we’d like to help make that happen.”
Member-owners, employees, and residents who live or work within the service territory of the region’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are eligible to be nominated. Nominations are currently being accepted through April 7, 2024. Three final winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on the impact that they have on the community. Weekly finalists will be announced and featured on KELOLand Living starting March 14, 2024, and the three contest winners will be announced on KELOLand Living on May 30, 2024.
The Who Powers You contest grand prize winner will receive a $3,000 prize. A second place winner will receive $1,500 and the contest’s third place winner will receive $500.
“As an electric cooperative, our services extend beyond delivering safe, affordable and reliable power to our member-owners,” said Studer. “The Who Powers You contest highlights the commitment of our co-op to the communities and member-owners that we serve. We know that our co-op community is filled with people making a difference. Let’s celebrate them!”
To learn more about the Who Powers You contest and to nominate someone in your community, visit whopowersyoucontest.com.

It's an informational newsletter and helps to promote our member businesses and their events. Each Friday, our newsletter is sent to over 1,500 individuals. Our separate emails are sent to the same list, but are held especially for our Chamber events and Business After Hours.
Newsletter Policy
E-Connection events are included based on the requests from the member business. The following criteria are requested by the Marshall Area Chamber for event submissions:
*Event flyers or submissions must be an actual event. We don't include sales or promotions.
*Events can be included in the E-Connection for one week free of charge. You have the option of adding one additional week for $20.
*Submissions to be included must be sent the Wednesday prior to that Friday's E-Connection - they can be emailed to chamber@marshallmn.org.
*All event flyers are for Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce members only.
Did you find any errors? It happens! Although we appreciate notice of a small error in the newsletter, we only send out a corrected e-mail if absolutely necessary.
