May 2024 Newsletter

Lord God, bless Your Word wherever it is proclaimed. Make it a word of power and peace to convert those not yet Your own and to confirm those who have come to saving faith. May Your Word pass from the ear to the heart, from the heart to the lip, and from the lip to the life that, as You have promised, Your Word may achieve the purpose for which You send it; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen!

"Stay Connected to Christ!"

All the electronic equipment that is part of modern life is great? Right? Your laptop and tablet as well as your smart phone have become conveniences that most people rely on each day. I’ve often wondered what my grandfather, born in 1897, would say about such things, if he were able to make a return to earth---and no he can’t. The word laptop would be understood as part of your body. A tablet would be the writing pad which he used in the country school house. I well remember his old fashioned phone hanging on the wall which had to be cranked to get the attention of the operator, and those on the party line. Smart phone? No, there was nothing very smart about a phone back then but they are collectors items!  (Read the full article to the left.)

SERVANTHOOD

News From Our Choirs

Unfortunately due to Susan’s extended recovery from surgery in rehab at Jacksonville Nursing on Dunn Avenue, we cannot announce a rehearsal schedule for May. We hope that she is able to get out of the rehab facility and resume her activities but a date for this is still to be determined. Thanks for understanding.

ALTAR GUILD

The ladies and men of the altar guild care for the sanctuary and prepare for services of communion. We thank Dan and Linda Mattingly for serving in April. Serving in May are Bettie Seman and Steve Walker. We hope that our worshipers are enjoying the new Lenten paraments in the striking purple color with symbols of Jesus’ passion.

If you would like to purchase fresh Altar flowers, Carrie’s Florist of Callahan is the recommended church florist. A temporary flower chart is posted in the narthex. The cost of the flowers is now $90 ($45 per bouquet) plus delivery. If you would like to save the additional cost for delivery you are welcome to pick them up yourself. Speak to Linda Mattingly for more information.

Serving This Month

One of the ways we honor God is by serving Him in the Church. Duties such as reading Scripture, Ushering, Greeting and more - are all ways to serve and be in fellowship with our Christian family. Please reach out to Pastor Reister if you would like to join a team. See Serving Schedule below:

Alliance Defending Freedom

Our congregation is a member congregation of the ADF Church Alliance. We are currently updating our church marriage policy, facility use policy, membership application and other form which will receive a free review by ADF lawyers. Christian churches are under increasing attack in the United States from the radical left which is trying to force compliance with its immoral values and views.

Stewardship Inspiration

Giving Beyond the Grave?

I’m going to challenge you to think about this.

So many of you are wonderful, faithful givers. Your envelopes come in weekly or monthly, and your dedication to the support of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is evident. The ministry of our congregation could not continue without you. But have you ever considered what happens to the church’s finances when a beloved saint transfers to heaven? Their faithful gifts simply stop. Unless… (Read article to the left.)

FROM THE RADIO STUDIO

In John chapter 3 we read of a nighttime visit with Jesus by the Jewish leader Nicodemus. It is likely that he came to Jesus by night so that the other members of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council, would be unaware of the meeting. Jesus spoke with him of the need to be born again which was very confusing to him. In Jesus explanation of this spiritual rebirth he also said, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” This verse often comes to my mind when I think of Our Redeemer Lutheran Radio. Read article below
