UCSB Reads 2024 Authors Talk

Join us for the signature UCSB Reads 2024 event. Susan Magsamen (Johns Hopkins University) and Ivy Ross (Google), the authors of Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us, will present a free, public talk.

This event is presented by the Library in partnership with UCSB Arts & Lectures. Advance registration is required.

Isla Vista Memorial Exhibition
This exhibition commemorates the 10th anniversary of the violent rampage in Isla Vista on May 23, 2014. Co-sponsored by the UCSB Associated Students.

John Steinbeck Sound Recordings
The Library has received a rare collection of dictation recordings made by California author and Nobel Prize laureate John Steinbeck (1902–1962).

The collection was donated by UCSB alumni Mark Maxson ‘75 and Mary Burchill ‘76.
Sloan Foundation Grant Award
The University of California has been awarded a $1.85 million grant by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support the development of a UC-wide network of Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs).

The project's co-principal investigators include UCSB's Amber Budden (Associate University Librarian for Digital Strategies) and Jonathan Balkind (Assistant Professor, Computer Science).
LAUR Awards Ceremony and Reception
Join us in honoring the recipients of the 2024 Library Award for Undergraduate Research (LAUR).

The award recognizes students who have produced a creative or scholarly work that makes expert and sophisticated use of the Library's collections, resources and services.

We are now accepting book suggestions for the UCSB Reads 2025 program. Help us find a book that explores compelling issues of our time and will bring the campus and Santa Barbara communities together.

Review the book selection criteria and send us your suggestions by June 17.

UCSB affiliates now enjoy free access to AM Digital Archives Collection (formerly Adam Matthew) thanks to a new Library subscription.

AM provides access to millions of primary sources spanning the 15th–21st centuries from archives around the world.
