December 2022 News

Greetings!

Gifts. We all love a good gift. Think about your most favorite one that you have ever received. Mine is the dollhouse Santa brought me when I was a little girl. To this day I still remember the way it was set up when I walked into the living room on Christmas morning. Got yours in mind?

While we all love to receive gifts, Christmas is the season of giving. Right now, the stores are full and the pressure is on: gotta get something for everyone on the list!

But think back in your life about that gift that is your favorite, most memorable gift. Why did that gift stand out to you? The perfect gift is the one that fulfills the need you didn't even realize you had. The perfect gift is the one that is given without any expectations in return. The perfect gift comes at exactly the right time. The perfect gift shows the love of the giver in a real and tangible way. The perfect gift is beyond what you could have ever expected.

This Christmas, we all get to celebrate receiving that perfect gift: Jesus Christ as shown in 2 Corinthians 9:15 says, "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" Jesus is truly a free gift, showing the love of our Heavenly Father for us to receive as our own. Let's all remember, in this season of giving, what the real gift of Christmas is - JESUS. Merry Christmas!

All for the children,

"Let the little children come..." Matthew 19:14
Hey Parents - try this at home!
Try these great ideas to keep the Christmas spirit in full swing and focused on Jesus this season!

  • Choose a country to learn about how people there celebrate Christmas. Besides learning about how that country celebrates the holiday, prepare a seasonal dish to share, or demonstrate a song or dance as a family. Then pray for the people of that culture so that they too might understand the meaning of God’s love.

  • Gather as a family and read the Christmas story in Luke 2. Go through your nativity set and talk about each piece as described in the Bible, ending with Baby Jesus.

  • Let your family know that you want to remember to “find” the true meaning of Christmas during this season, so every day Baby Jesus will be hidden somewhere around the house. Each day, your kids can search and find Christ to put Him in the manger. This reminds us to seek to find Him throughout the season.

Look at the fun we had last month!
We had a great time at our Thanksgiving Celebration in Canopy Kidz on November 27. PreK thru 5th grade learned a lesson on how to have a grateful heart instead of a heart that complains. They did an “I am thankful” pumpkin craft and enjoyed making their own turkey cupcakes!

LIVE S.E.N.T AT MOVIES IN THE PARK!
Saturday, Dec. 10th, Tekesta Park will be transformed into one of CRBC’s largest Live SENT events of the year: Movies in the Park. This is a HUGE opportunity to Live SENT together as a church family. We have some specific needs that need to be met in order to have a successful event:

-  Cookie Donations: We need approximately 200 dozen cookies.

-  Set Up/Tear Down Crew: We spend all Saturday setting up for the event and immediately tear down after the last movie at 9pm. Even if you can only commit a few hours on Dec. 10th, we need your help. We will feed you pizza

- Greeters/Welcome Team: This event happens at night and it can be difficult for guests to know exactly where they are going. We need a team of individuals who can make a great first impression on our guests and shine a light on where they should go. We will give you a flashlight and a really stylish vest.

- Cookie Tent Volunteers: The cookie tent is in constant motion. Along with passing out thousands of cookies, this team of individuals also prepares hot cocoa for our guests. We need a team of individuals who love to serve in this way and are willing to strike up a conversation with guests while they make their way through the line. Yes…you can "test" some of the cookies.

You can sign up for any of these on your communication card this Sunday or email Cathy at cathy@canopyroads.org and let her know how you’d like to serve.
Superbook Academy | Sundays in December | 9:30 & 11 AM
Throughout December , K-5th grade will be digging deep into scripture and going on adventures with Chris, Joy and their robot Gizmo. Chris is so busy trying to get presents, he won’t set up a manger scene—until he discovers the greatest Christmas gift of all time! Superbook takes Chris, Joy and Gizmo to the hills of ancient Bethlehem. Witness Mary and Joseph’s frantic search for lodging before their baby is born. Uncover a wicked plot that puts Jesus’ family in danger. Experience the wonder as angels and shepherds worship the newborn King lying in a manger. Kids will learn that the true meaning of Christmas is far greater than parties and presents!
