SHAARE TEFILA SCRIP IS BACK - Raise money for Shaare Tefila with your everyday shopping to Giant Food, Safeway, Shalom Kosher or Moti’s Kosher supermarket. Instead of making everyday purchases with cash/ credit – purchase gift cards through our synagogue Scrip program. Note there is no additional cost to you, and a percentage of your gift card (5% of each dollar) purchase comes back to our synagogue. It is truly that simple! To order your Scrip cards: Contact Barbara Fink at 240-447-4665 or email her at [email protected]. She will be happy to take down your order and arrange to deliver your Scrip cards or have you pick them up at the synagogue office. Orders can also be placed with Executive Director Jerry Kiewe at 301-593-3410, X101, via cell at 410-294-3205, or email him at [email protected].

Sisterhood Shabbat is back!
The Sisterhood board overwhelmingly decided to bring back the Sisterhood Shabbat and it will now be called the Rita Rubinstein Memorial Sisterhood Shabbat. We feel this is the absolute best way to honor her work and her memory. The Rita Rubinstein Memorial Sisterhood Shabbat is on May 18, 2024. The women of Shaare Tefila will lead the entire Torah service! I am putting out a call for all women (especially if you were in her adult Bat Mitzvah class) to consider participating in this wonderfully meaningful event. There are plenty of roles that need to be filled from leading the Torah service, to reading from the Torah (yes, you can do it!), to carrying the Torah, to helping with a beautiful kiddush. We need Torah readers. If you start practicing now, you will be prepared. The Rabbi has offered to record them for whoever needs it. Please reach out to Fran Weiss to learn more about these readings.
The Chug Ivrit (Hebrew Conversation Group) meets on zoom every Sunday from 10:30 - noon. If you are interested in learning and practicing conversational Hebrew, contact Adriana Sandler. The group has been meeting since 2015 and is always looking for people to join.
MONTHLY DISCUSSION GROUP
Since before the pandemic, a group of men from Shaare Tefila began meeting on a monthly basis to discuss topics of interest, ranging from politics, Israel, education, legal issues and many more. The group has recently resumed and has opted to eliminate the gender-based aspect…so sessions are now open to all. The group is looking forward to an even more diverse array of perspectives and invites YOU to join in and share your own point of view.
The group meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday (except Holidays). At present it is meeting via Zoom, per the following dates.
