We will celebrate Communion at all four services this weekend, and the junior high, Confirmation, and senior high youth will be joining us in worship as well.

You can help our youth score a victory in this weekend’s Souper Bowl of Caring!

During Coffee Hour this Sunday, the youth will be collecting cans of soup and other nonperishable food items in addition to monetary contributions for the Souper Bowl of Caring—a national grassroots, faith-based campaign against hunger.

All proceeds collected by our youth will support our Fourth Church Meals Ministry Bag Lunches and Sunday and Monday Night Suppers as well as the food pantry of our Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center.

So come to church this Sunday, February 2 ready to fill the youth’s large soup pots with canned goods and contributions that will help us tackle hunger in our community!
The deadline for signing up to participate in our Jail Ministry in 2020 is this Friday, January 31.

If you are interested in, once a month, worshiping and talking with detainees in the Cook County Jail, please let us know at jailministry@fourthchurch.org by January 31. Those visiting the jail must first attend a one-hour training by the Cook County Sheriff's Office the first week of February.
In addition to compiling a list of entry-level job openings to share with the St. Sabina Employment Resource Center, our Employment Network is also looking for information about day jobs, such as painting and auto repair, to pass along to one of the refugee families we support. If you know of such opportunities and openings, please email them to employmentnetwork@fourthchurch.org.
Also this Friday is the deadline for signing up for this year’s youth summer trips to Detroit and Ferncliff.

Detroit
June 20–26

This trip is for all youth who will be in grades 5–8 in the fall of 2020. Through our partnership with the Presbytery of Detroit, a team of Fourth Church youth will spend four days serving and learning around the city, doing such things as sorting clothing donations, landscaping, and serving meals. The trip also includes fun activities like a visit to the Detroit History Museum or a water park (weather permitting).

Senior High Mission Trip to Ferncliff
Little Rock, Arkansas
Saturday, July 11–17

This trip is for all youth who will be in grades 9 through freshman year of college in the fall of 2020. Through our partnership with the PC(USA)’s only Disaster Assistance Center, Ferncliff, a team of Fourth Church youth will spend four days serving and learning around Little Rock, doing such things as sorting donations, learning about eco-sustainability, and serving meals. They will also spend time at Heifer International and Little Rock Central High School Historic Site.
As part of our observance of Black History Month, Cornerstones—a fellowship opportunity for those fifty and over—will learn about “Retracing Freedom’s March on the Fall Mission Trip.”

On Friday evening, February 7, Robert Crouch will share with Cornerstones reflections about the 2019 Civil Rights Movement Trip. This journey, sponsored by our Racial Equity Council, offered a deep immersion into both the tragic dimensions of systemic racism in our country and the inspiring hope, faith, commitment, and resilience of those who have resisted it.

Registration for this dinner-program gathering, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Borwell Dining Room, is required by this coming Tuesday, February 4.

Strengthening Communication through the Enneagram” is the topic of an upcoming February 8 workshop hosted by the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being.

Come discover how the Enneagram can help us understand how we naturally express ourselves as well as how we can distort what others say to us. We will also explore why talking to one person might be simpler than talking to another.

Through the lens of the Enneagram, we will take an honest look at how we communicate with those in our lives, an understanding that will have long-lasting benefits for our relationships with coworkers, family, friends, and, most importantly, ourselves.

All members are encouraged to attend the annual meeting in order to take part in this important activity in the life of Fourth Church!

Might you be able to help us with grocery shopping once a month?

Our Meals Ministry program is in need of grocery shoppers to purchase supplies for the program. (Shoppers need both email access and a car.)

Or perhaps you are available to greet worshipers at our Sunday afternoon Jazz at Four service.

These are just two of the volunteer opportunities you will find listed on VOMO ( www.bit.ly/fpcvolunteers), our new volunteer management software, which makes it easy to sign up for and manage your volunteer engagement with the church.

For assistance with VOMO or information about volunteering with Fourth Church, please contact Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry.
