This Sunday at Saint Anne's

This Sunday we will welcome the Rev. Kenya Thompson to Saint Anne’s. I had the pleasure of working with Kenya at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church. She is now the Director of Leadership Development and Education at Emmaus House. Emmaus House is a vital ministry in the Diocese of Atlanta. Recently, I learned that our parish had a long relationship of volunteering and supporting Emmaus House in the past. Kenya will be with us preaching at the 8:00 and 10:30 services and leading the adult formation hour in the library. She will share a little of the history of Emmaus House and the new initiatives that have been started in People’s Town, the community near "Turner Field." Read more about her below. Join us this Sunday to hear more about the amazing work of Emmaus House.

The Rev. Kenya Thompson is dedicated to removing barriers that prevent people from utilizing their God given gifts and living into their full potential as members of the Body of Christ. She believes that as Disciples of Christ we are called to love and take care of each other and to act on our Faith.

Mo. Kenya serves at Emmaus House as Director of Leadership Development and Education. She is responsible for creating opportunities that increase the economic, social, and spiritual well-being of residents in Peoplestown and the surrounding communities. Notably, she directs the Children’s Defense Funds Freedom School program; a six-week summer camp designed to foster a love of reading and increase literacy rates. Mo. Kenya chairs the Church of the Common Ground advisory board and serves on a number of committees in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.

A proud graduate of Howard University, 1992; the Reverend Thompson also holds a Master of Education degree from American University and a Master of Divinity degree, from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Rev. Kenya is married to her high school sweetheart, Malcolm Thompson. In her free time, she enjoys, traveling, live concerts and attending festivals.

Special music this Sunday

Christian Gillette, one of the Icon Workshop leaders, will be sharing his musical gifts with us at communion this Sunday. Crystal Singing Bowls are musical instruments made from quartz crystal, producing pure, resonant tones when struck or rubbed. Each bowl is tuned to a specific musical note, corresponding to different energy centers in the body. In sound healing and meditation practices, these bowls are utilized to promote relaxation, balance, and healing. The vibrations emitted by the bowls are believed to penetrate deep into the body, clearing blockages and restoring harmony to the mind, body, and spirit. Practitioners often incorporate crystal singing bowls into meditation sessions and holistic healing therapies to induce a state of deep relaxation and facilitate inner peace and well-being.

Celebrating the busy life of our parish as Hannah officially become associate rector, the Terrace is honored, and the kids enjoy a Saturday at Saint Anne's filled with fun, friendship and love.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Donation Drive for Urban Recipe

The Outreach Committee is sponsoring a drive for household products for members of the Saint Anne's Urban Recipe Co-op.  Since September 2022, Saint Anne's Church has supported this co-op that meets every other Wednesday in the Parish Hall. Fifty families come together to sort and distribute the food for the members. To date, the co-op members have received over 52,000 lbs of food with a value over $200,000.

We are collecting some additional items to help support our families

  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels

Both individual items and Costco packages will be accepted and we will divide them. Bins will be in the narthex and church office to drop off your donations. Questions? Contact Jane SIbley, Katherine Kinser, or Amber Almond.

On Wednesday, May 8 at 6:00 pm Saint Anne’s will be serving dinner at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church following their 5:00 pm Wednesday service. Please join us in serving and sharing a meal with our friends there. Holy Comforter is a mission of our diocese and a member of our Convocation. Approximately 60% of the congregation lives with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. The Friendship Center and Holy Comforter are a part of our outreach ministries. The Friendship Center meets two days a week for art, gardening, yoga, games and more.

If you have time, we would appreciate help with preparing the meal at Saint Anne’s and going down about 4:00 pm to set up and serve dinner. Please contact Ethel Wright at ethel.wright @mindspring.com

Get annual flowers for your gardens, tomatoes, bell peppers, strawberries, raspberries, basil and other herbs at Holy Comforter's plant sale. There will also be native perennials and pollinator plants. Plenty of indoor plants for sun and shade. All of our plants are organic. And there will be delicious baked items to complete your Mother's Day feast including breads, cakes and cookies.

We are looking for people who are interested in joining our committee and also for people who would be interested in volunteering for one of the many outreach programs that the committee supports. The committee will meet once a month on the 4th Sunday after the 10:30am service. Or if you would like to be a volunteer, we can assist with an opportunity that meets your needs and schedule.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining us, please contact Jane Sibley at jane.sibley@retired.paceacademy.org or Katherine Kinser at kpkinser@gmail.com

Episcopal Church Women

UTO Ingathering is May 5

PRACTICE GRATITUDE & CHANGE THE WORLD

What if your personal spiritual practice of gratitude could impact thousands of people in life-giving ways? Through the United Thank Offering (UTO) ministry of the Episcopal Church, you are invited to embrace and deepen your spiritual discipline of Gratitude during the season of Lent. Here's how it works:

  • Notice the good things that happen each day.
  • Give thanks to God for your blessings.
  • Make an offering for each blessing using the UTO Blue Box.
  • Your blessing becomes a blessing to others.

ALL of the offerings - 100% - will be used to support innovative mission and ministry throughout the Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.

UTO is a ministry of the Episcopal Church Women, but each man, woman and child is invited - welcome - to participate! Last year, UTO received $1M from others' gratitude and generosity; but UTO received almost $2.6M in requests for grants. Important ministries in the Episcopal Church receive grants of support. You can learn more at UnitedThankOffering.com.
