This Sunday

On this fifth Sunday of Easter we're considering the bold claim in 1 John 4 that we cannot love God and hate people. We'll also look at the story of the Ethiopian eunuch from Acts 8:26-40 to help us understand what it can look like when Spirit leads us to love. Fear and hatred divide, but love connects.

Tim K. Murphy will lead us through this week’s Hymns & diverse musical selections for this week’s Prelude & Postlude. Jeffrey Frederic Paul will lead the ACC Choir & Bell Choir for this week's Special Music & Offertory. Caro Grosvenor will be this week’s liturgist & will light the Prayer Candles.

Join us in the Fireside Room after Morning Worship for a Board of Missions and Social Justice Meeting.

Faith Formation Fourth Friday Fireside Films: Life of Pi

TODAY! Friday April 26 at 1:30 PM

On Friday, April 26, Faith Formation will present its monthly film offering, Life of PI (2012) in the ACC Fireside Room.

The storyline revolves around two survivors of a shipwreck who are on a lifeboat stranded in the Pacific Ocean for 227 days. One is a sixteen-year-old Indian boy named Pi Patel and the other is a ferocious Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Yann Martel, the author of the book upon which the film was based, said that Life of Pi can be summarized in three statements: "Life is a story," "You can choose your story,” and "A story with God is the better story."

Please plan to arrive around 1:30 to allow time to visit and settle in to watch the two-hour film starting at 1:45. Of course there will be popcorn and lemon water to enjoy during the film and an after-film discussion.

April Birthdays!

As per the Church Council decision, we're leaving out the dates for various personal and security reasons. So when you send your cards you'll either be early or late. But, hey, we get it. It's the thought that counts.

Happy Birthday everyone!

We're glad you're here and we're on this ride together.

Care Team Arranges Rides, Meals, & Visits

The new Care Team is forming to arrange for meals, visits, and rides as needed by our congregation.

When you have a need, Susan Francis is the initial contact person. She will notify the person responsible for arranging rides or visits or meals.

Faith Abel is the person coordinating rides to church or medical appointments. She is looking for volunteers who can provide a ride as needed. We are currently providing rides to both church and medical appointments, and there is a definite need for drivers.

Please contact either Susan Francis or Faith Abel if you are someone who could give a ride when needed and it fits your schedule, as well as when you need a ride.

Helping Helen Winters

Helen Winters is facing some difficulties with mobility due to fractures in her back and ongoing health issues, and could use some support through meals. We are going to begin providing meals for Helen on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April and May. Please help out if you can!

Experiencing the Word Throughout the Week

By Nick Crump, Board of Faith Formation

Let’s join together to experience throughout the week the Word of God that we hear on Sunday. Our text will be the text of Rev. Jen’s sermon. In three stages, we will prepare for the Word, hear the Word, and reflect on its meaning for our lives.

Here’s how it works:

On Tuesday at noon we will meet on Zoom with Rev. Jen for Sermon Scripture Study, to read and discuss the text for the following Sunday sermon. We will bring questions, think about its context, and share interpretations. (Think of this as like the medieval Scholastic lectio: The readers put questions to the text and then question themselves on the subject).

On Sunday we will hear the Word as Rev. Jen has prepared to share it.

On the following Wednesday evening at 7pm, we will meet with Maria Tupua on Zoom for a Midweek Sermon Reflection, to dialogue and reflect on the sermon and text to experience and share its particular meaning for us. (Think of this as like the monastic lectio divina, a personal, meditative immersion in the scriptures.)

Let this be a seamless experience of the Word of God throughout the week.

"Checking In, Reaching Out"

Tuesday at 11:00 AM

One way of keeping our congregation strong is by staying connected. You are invited to join us every Tuesday morning from 11.00 – Noon for an hour of checking in, sharing, listening and prayer. No experience necessary. Come as you are.

Discussion Topic:

"April 30 is "Honesty Day". Why do you think honesty is or isn't an important value?”
