CLEAN Croton Leads Movement to Keep Our Village Beautiful

The Croton Litter-Free Education Advocacy Neighborhood initiative (CLEAN) is a sub-group within the Conservation Advisory Council that aims to organize support and volunteers to keep Croton-on-Hudson clean. Recently, CLEAN coordinated a successful clean-up at Senasqua Park, gathering around twenty bags of plastic and trash. A special thanks to Cub Scout Pack 28 and all the scouts and parents who pitched in!

At Wednesday's meeting, the Board of Trustees authorized CLEAN to adopt a section of Route 9A, from the village border near Baltic Place to Municipal Place, as part of New York State's Adopt-a-Highway Program. The Program allows volunteers to adopt sections of state highways to clean and beautify the roadside.

In conjunction with the upcoming Earth Day celebration in the village, CLEAN Croton invites all residents to participate in the 100 Yard Trash Challenge! The challenge is simple: over the course of the weekend of April 27, outside your home, business or favorite spot in the village, clean up every piece of trash you can find within 100 yards. Send a picture of your haul, along with the details of where you cleaned up and how much your haul weighed, that weekend to cleancroton@johnealer.com. Together, we can make a big difference, one yard at a time.

NYSERDA Buyer’s Guide for Electric Yard Equipment

Gas-powered equipment produces harmful levels of noise pollution that’s not only a nuisance to neighbors, but increases the risk of hearing loss, strokes, and heart attacks from both short- and long-term exposure. All-electric equipment is far less noisy when operating. Electric equipment also eliminates the smell of gas and associated emissions. Operating a commercial leaf blower for one hour emits the equivalent air pollution of driving a new passenger vehicle for around 1,100 miles.

If you are ready to ditch the gas can, NYSERDA’s guide covers everything you need to know about electrifying your yard equipment, from the available technologies to equipment maintenance and what to consider when comparing options.
