Make Room

Make Room

Below is a devotional I received this past week written by David Tauber.

It struck a chord in me that has lingered all week. For as these Christmas holidays are upon us, we find our schedules tightening up, our minds often scattered, and our to do list a bit overwhelming.

His devotional speaks to having room for Christ in our hearts but as I kept thinking about this, it occurred to me that we are called to not only make room for Christ but for others. Christmas is a season of love really... a love celebrated that God gave us through his son that can never be repaid only passed on. So this week I had to ask: "what can I do for someone else". Who can I reach out to that with time spent or a thoughtful gesture, or a simple invitation, that would be a reflection of a loving spirit that the Lord has graciously provided to me. God has given each of us big hearts... room for loving others and reaching out of our own comfort zones to serve others. It could be just having some friends over one afternoon for a glass of wine, or inviting someone unexpected for dinner, or dropping off a little note of gift to someone who you may thing needs a little encouragement or love.

There truly are a million ways to spread the love that the Lord has shown to you and to me. We just have to push some of the non essentials back a little and make room in our hearts for some loving words or deeds that will land sweetly and softly on the hearts of someonone else. So ...as I have been challenged through prayer to be on the lookout for ways push through my own agenda and do what God would want me to do to bless others. It may be someone who is less fortunate or an exercise friend, or a business associate or even a grocery store clerk. But passing along a little sparkle during these holidays is not only a blessing for those you reach out to but also just good for your soul. I hope that you to will make room in your heart for Christ, as we celebrate his birth but also for people who God quietly nudges you to serve to his love to.

One quick comment from Sunday School today.... we are the stable where Christ has come to live.

Luke 2:6-7 | NASB

6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

No vacancy sign in Bethlehem but I bet if the inn Keeper knew he had turned the Savior of the world he would have found room. Maybe in the wash room, or a large closet but somewhere so the King would not have to be born in a dirty stinky sheep stall.

I guess I have to ask as we approach Christmas is their room in your heart for Jesus. Are you to busy planning your next party or what gifts you are going to buy!

Maybe you have meaning to ask Christ into your heart but its to many demands in your life and you would have to change and give up so much to follow Christ! Well when you get yourself in a bind and no where to turn maybe then you realize you need a Savior that will carry you down the hard road that will be in front of you. But he will be there today or tomorrow but You can count on Him to save you if you JUST turn your life over to HIM.

So open the doors of your heart to Jesus and you will never look back!

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
