GET READY TO TEE UP IN SHADELANDS |
Keen to play Pebble Beach or St. Andrews without the travel and crowds? Good news: Smash Box Golf indoor golf simulator is coming to the Shadelands SportsMall in August.
In April, owners Charlie and Jerica Campbell debuted their new venture during a five-day pre-opening pop-up event, demonstrating what golfers can expect from this hi-tech, immersive indoor golf experience.
Within individual, self-contained, ultra-modern and private mobile units, Smash Box Golf uses the technology of industry leader Trackman to simulate a golf outing, whether on a course—250 worldwide to choose from—or driving range.
Complete with an Astroturf base, floor-to-ceiling flexible screen, television monitors on either side, and seating space for six guests, Smash Box Golf provides personalized opportunities to play a round of golf or practice a bucket of balls quickly, in less time than outdoor play.
And, because the software technology displays instant performance feedback and assessment data on the mounted monitors, players can play and practice with purpose, refining their swings based on the data and their own goals.
To be located on the open tan bark area at the entrance to COPA, Smash Box Golf will be membership-based, with several monthly membership options that include member play and guest passes.
Tee times are booked online and through the app.
For golfers who want to sneak in a round before work or after the kids have gone to bed, 24/7 accessibility (via geocode entry) makes it easy to grab the clubs and tee up anytime, any weather.
Check out Smash Box Golf.

WALNUT CREEK HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO HOST WALNUT CREEK OPEN SPACE 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION |
On June 6, 1974, voters passed the R-8 bond measure, enabling the purchase and protection of Lime Ridge, Shell Ridge, Sugarloaf, and Acalanes undeveloped spaces, and other lands in and around Walnut Creek, to be preserved in perpetuity as public parks and open space.
Now, on June 6 of this year, the Walnut Creek Historical Society is hosting the 50th anniversary celebration of that seminal moment, launching a summer long Open Space History Exhibit.
The exhibit will feature a visual timeline of events and showcase milestones crucial to the success of the Open Space Foundation’s mission and the preservation of the Walnut Creek’s natural environment.
It will also acknowledge community participation and grassroots activism that has enabled the purchase of more than 2,700 acres of public land.
The 50th anniversary celebration is free and open to the public.

ROADWAY & WALKWAY IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY |
The corner of Shadelands Drive and N. Wiget Lane is getting more than beautification work done.
The City's Shadelands and Wiget Pedestrian Improvement Project, which began the end of April, targets pedestrian safety and asphalt repairs, and is expected to last two months.
The southwest corner of Shadelands Drive and Wiget Lane lacks a sidewalk for a length of more than 400’ at the frontage of the Master Gardeners’ “Our Garden” center along both streets.
The project calls for the construction of new sidewalks to close gaps and sidewalk widening along the length of existing sidewalk.
Additionally, curbs and gutters, curb ramps, sidewalk drains, and a new streetlight will be installed.
| |
Facing south at the SW corner of Shadelands Drive & N. Wiget Lane, site of the Shadelands & Wiget Pedestrian Improvement Project. |
Portions of the sidewalk will be closed during construction, and pedestrians and cyclists will be directed toward alternative routes.
For information, visit Walnut Creek.
