Watchman

Watchman

I remember years ago, driving to a football game and seeing a Bold sign in a yard that  read "NOT ON MY WATCH". Now what do you think gave whoever it was the inclination to make such a sign? I suspect it was an intent to ward off crime. It was such a declaration … a bold declaration. If I were a thief, I think I would pick another house for this one looked ready for battle.

Am I armed for battle . . . do I cling to a bold message within that says: "Not on my Watch" which spiritually wards off the enemy. Am I prepared for attack when my feelings get hurt, or my insecurity is on the rise, or something of value gets crushed, or my plans get thwarted, or a dear one gets sick. Is my faith a bold defense? Does that little voice inside me say: “Not on my watch”? Warning, warning …don't bother with her, she is armed and dangerous and protected by God.  I would love for Satan to be scared to mess with me and move on to the next fellow. But the only one that Satan fears is Christ. If I am walking along side Christ, my protector, I am safe. Safe from Satan's flying arrows that come from all directions . . . because my Lord is my refuge.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 59:9

O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,

Genesis 28:15

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

God has called us to be his watchman on this earth, sitting on the fence and watching out for and protecting those we love; our family friends and those who need our help. We are to be serving others and not be self-serving.  And when we are watching out for others, we are acting as God’s eyes and hands and feet on this earth.

God is on Watch - he is the ultimate watchman. He sees all, knows all, and can do all things. Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. We are called to be on watch too! Be alert, watch for God's hand and the opportunity to share what Christ has taught you or shown you in your life. Someone who may be searching for their purpose on this Earth may be just the one God puts in Your path.

Watch too for temptation . . be on the lookout for anything that tries to get you to deviate from the path of Christ. Matthew 26:41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

Psalm 33:14

from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.

Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

NOT ON MY WATCH . . . be bold in your declaration. Let it be known that you have partnered with the BEST . . . that you are willing to go into battle because you know there is someone who claims victory in ALL battles that he fights, and he is not only your God but your friend and adversary. He is watching, he never sleeps!  Be at peace and rest in his authority

Oswald Chambers quoted this verse in his Dec. 31st devotional, "You shall not go out in haste, the Lord will go before you and the God of Israel will be your rear guard - Isaiah 52:12" - and he said "God will send his forces out where we have failed to do so. He will keep WATCH so that we will not be tripped up again by the same failures, as would undoubtedly happen if he were not our "rear guard". If we have messed up in the past God has settled that and will protect us from the back as we move forward. Watch for God's hand . . .. for he is watching over you!

Dear Lord, Be my watchman! Be my ever-present help in time of trouble and let me remember to run to the security of your fortress when flying arrows are coming from all directions. Let me be brave in the knowledge of your overseeing power. As you are watching over me may I be ever watching for you! Let me watch for your hand, and trust in your word, as you touch those I love around me.

Lord, teach me also to watch those who you have placed in my path with compassion and not judgement. Let me shine your light rather than my disdain and be a magnet of your word for those in need. Thank you for being a never-ending watchman over each life on this Earth. . . . and for being willing to stand guard and fight the battle that the enemy wages.

Amen

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
