It can take time to find the right home

Friends like you helped young Jilly find her new family. She entered the shelter needing comfort, veterinary care, and time.

Reserved on the outside, filled with playfulness on the inside. Her sight-hound face and tucked tail indicated she was uncomfortable with new people. But like a cold tap left to run, she warmed up.

Once “warm”, she was a toy-loving ball of energy. Yet many people want instant hot

water…an instant bond…and can’t wait for a dog like Jilly to shine.

Then, a family familiar with juggling life’s nuttiness and seeing silver linings amidst rainy clouds came in to meet Jilly. The mom was looking for a friend for her 13-year-old son. Much of her time was consumed by caring for his sibling, and he had wanted a dog for a long time.

He listened to all the care instructions bestowed by the adoption staff. His eyes were on her, and

she rested her head on his thigh. Once home, the family followed the 3:3:3 program. They gave Jilly three days to decompress, three weeks to settle in, and three months of a normal routine. Jilly would play when she wanted, and the boy would allow her to come to him when she was ready. Some days were hard as she liked to get into the trash or bark and bark to get attention. But with time, she turned a corner and began to stop testing her new family and instead trust them. Donors like you allowed Jilly to find her loving family.

Mittens was a nightly guest at a local restaurant. She waited for the cooks to open the kitchen door and put some scraps out. By the time she was three years old, she had outlasted at least two cooks and had birthed a baker’s dozen. On a cold night, she didn’t approach the kitchen door. She lay alone by the dumpster until a cook noticed and went to check on her. Her fur was singed. Her paws were burnt and infected. Thankfully, he brought her to WCHS. At WCHS, Mittens’ wounds were cleaned, and she received antibiotics and a chance to start a new life as an indoor cat!
