Veterans Memorial Plaza gets some Finishing Touches

Dan Wakolbinger Carol Stream Park District employee put his excellent craftsmanship to good use. Dan added granite trim, sealant and black caulk to the bases of the military monuments giving them a more finished look. Veterans Memorial Plaza continues to be a beautiful gathering place for the community. Thank you Dan for your hard work.

Earlier this fall we thanked Kaden Van Lerberghe for selecting Veterans Memorial Plaza, Veterans Park and Fountain View Recreation Center for a community service project in his journey to achieve rank of Eagle Scout. He planted two trees in the plaza and perennial bulbs at all three locations. We also thanked those who assisted and donated to his project: Boy Scout Troop 191, Kramer Tree Specialists, Carol Stream Park District, Rotary Club of Carol Stream and Carol Stream VFW Post 10396.

Veterans Day Service will take place on November 11 at 11am at Veterans Memorial Plaza. Service hosted by the VFW of Carol Stream Post 10396. In case of inclement weather, service will move indoors to Fountain View Recreation Center.

Fall is here and while it's a beautiful time of year as the leaves change color, the IDOT and IDNR are reminding motorists that deer mating season has begun. Deer become more active, mainly at dawn and dusk from October through December. "Deer often travel in groups, so if a deer crosses the road ahead of you, there is a good possibility that another will follow. Always be prepared for the unexpected. A deer might stop in the middle of the road or double back," said IL Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. "Don't veer for deer – it could cause you to lose control of your vehicle and swerve into another lane or off the road."
