GPD Group Selected as Master Facilities Plan Architect
The Shaker Heights City School District and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) has identified the Akron-based GPD Group to lead architectural and design work for the District’s Master Facilities Project. The District will seek approval to hire GPD from the Board of Education at its May meeting.
The District received six submittals from its Request for Qualifications (RFQ). The RFQs were scored by the District and OFCC, creating a short list of finalists. Interviews with the finalists took place April 19. The interviews included members of the Facilities Advisory Committee and students from the ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) program.
The GPD Group is also the architect/engineer for the Ludlow School renovation into a PreK center. Request for Proposals (RFP) submissions from prospective construction managers at risk (CMR) have been submitted. The District and OFCC will announce the CMR selection in mid-May.

Last week, the District announced updated school start and end times for the 2024-2025 school year. The updated times are as follows:
Preschool
SHTA Teacher Day: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Full Day Students: 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Half Day Morning Students: 8:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Half Day Afternoon Students: 12:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Grades K-5
SHTA Teacher Day: 7:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Student Day: 8:05 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.
Grades 6-8
SHTA Teacher Day: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Student Day: 8:50 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Grades 9-12
SHTA Teacher Day: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Student Day: 8:20 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
School Year Calendars & End-of-Year Events
The Shaker Heights Board of Education approved adjustments to the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic calendars at their April 16 meeting. In addition, the District has adjusted the schedule of end-of-year events for the current school year. For the updated calendars and the event schedule by school, please click here.
Ludlow Update at April 16 Board of Education Meeting
At the Tuesday, April 16, Board of Education meeting, Ludlow Architect GPD Group and Ludlow Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) Gilbane Building Company gave an update on the Ludlow renovation project. The District is renovating the Ludlow school building to accommodate expansion of the District’s current PreK program with the goal of ensuring that all Shaker Heights students have access to a high quality preschool education.
