Outdoors in the Michigan Avenue courtyard

This Sunday, July 7, we are taking our weekly Jazz at Four Communion service outdoors to the Michigan Avenue courtyard.

We will also worship outdoors on Sundays, August 4 and September 1. During each of these services our jazz quartet will feature music from one of three African American jazz greats.

July 7: Duke Ellington
August 4: Abbey Lincoln
September 1: John Coltrane

We hope you will join us by the fountain on these Sunday afternoons for a time of worship, the music of the Fourth Church Jazz Quartet, and fellowship with one another, all while surrounded by the beauty of summer!
The Chicago Lights Dance Academy began its four-week summer dance intensive at the church this week.

Each July the Dance Academy—which supports learning and creative self-expression through dance instruction for students who attend under-resourced, and often under-performing, schools in Chicago—offers an intensive program that meets weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

After learning a variety of dance styles, the students present a concluding performance in Buchanan Chapel, to which all are invited. Watch for details later this month!
The students in the Dance Academy are among those supported by our annual School Supply Drive. The 2019 drive is now underway, and we need your help!

Before the Dance Academy and Summer Day programs end at the end of July and the beginning of August, we want to have filled backpacks for each of the students to use to begin their new school year this fall.

We're also collecting items for the children and youth connected with our Chicago Lights Tutoring program.

School supplies to fill backpacks for these children and youth will be gathered at morning Coffee Hour on Sundays and at the reception desk during the week beginning on July 14.

For a list of needed items or to volunteer with the School Supply Drive, contact Anne Ellis.
Please join us in also welcoming to Fourth Church youth from the First Presbyterian Church of South St. Paul, Minnesota.

They will be arriving Sunday afternoon to spend a week with us as part of our Urban Youth Mission (UYM) program, a time for service and learning about urban mission and ministry.

During their time with us, these youth will have opportunity to explore diverse city neighborhoods while performing valuable hands-on service and reflecting on God, faith, and the Christian call to justice. We look forward to partnering with them in mission!
Next Friday, July 12 bring your lunch and take a break from the busyness of Michigan Avenue: free Friday Noonday Concerts at Fourth Church move to the courtyard a week from today!

Join us at 12:10 p.m. on Fridays from July 12 until the end of the summer for "Music by the Fountain," featuring a variety of musical talent, including jazz vocalists and a cabaret duo. Next week, as we kick off the series, we welcome jazz vocalist Libby York.
