Essex Together Education Survey

NJ Essex Together is a faith-based community organizing initiative designed to promote change across districts and provide a voice and outlet for the county. This survey form is designed by the education committee to learn more about the educational experience in Essex County for teachers and administrators, school staff, parents/guardians, students, and community members so we can begin to see trends in concerns and find actionable solutions. It will take 5 minutes to complete and will help our committee work on your behalf and on behalf of your students, children, and school communities to provide more equitable services across the county.

Volunteer With Mighty Writers!

MIGHTY WRITERS (Lincoln Park-Newark) is in need of mentors and volunteers for our neighborhood children:

1. Mentors are screened via AccurateNow, which is a very simple process. The screening is for child abuse and sex offenders.

2. We are strictly in-person; after three meetings, the mentor can arrange a virtual meeting if needed. But at least three meetings are needed first for that.

3. No, it doesn't have to be gender-specific. We usually pair people with children based on their interests and other things they may have in common.

4. All sites' scheduling is different. Newark has decided their mentor meet-ups will be from 3:30–4:30. They are also allowed to take their mentee on trips, outings, and things of that sort up until 8 p.m., with permission from their parents. If people are interested in simply volunteering and helping out with the after-school program, any time from 3-5 would work.

5. We do have new orientations that will be coming up soon. Volunteers don't have to attend the orientation to start, but at some point they will need to attend the 2-part series.

Food Pantry Volunteers Needed

The Food Pantry and Clothes Closet Ministry desperately needs volunteers. The more, the better. Hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Food Pantry and Clothes Closet Ministry is an Emergency Ministry listed with the Fire Departments. The needs of the community are many, but the workers are few.

Volunteers must be available for the full period between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Please simply show up. It is not necessary to call the church ahead of time.

If you or anyone you know is able, the food pantry is also in need of Spanish, French, and Creole-speaking volunteers.
