Special Offering on June 10

This Sunday, Fourth Church will collect a special offering to be sent to Common Hope--our mission partner on the ground in Guatemala for over a decade--to purchase medical supplies to help those in response to the devastating volcanic eruption that took place in Guatemala on Sunday, June 3. Checks can be made out to Fourth Church with "Guatemala" in the memo line, or gifts may be placed in the Disaster Relief envelopes in the pew racks.

Welcoming Visiting Youth Groups
|
Each summer our Urban Youth Mission (UYM) program hosts visiting youth groups from across the country who come to spend a week with us immersed in service and learning about urban mission and ministry.
The visiting groups stay overnight at the church and spend their days engaging in both learning and hands-on outreach experiences at the church and in the city.
Guiding them are Fourth Church staff member Katie Patterson and four summer staff members.
Please join us in welcoming the summer staff and the first group who will be with us this summer. Arriving this Sunday, June 10 for their UYM week is a group of junior high youth from Myers Park Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Shop the Urban Farm's Market

Come to church this Sunday ready to stock your pantry!
Representatives of the Chicago Lights Urban Farm will be on hand during Coffee Hour this weekend with a variety of fresh produce available for purchase. Weekly produce shares are also available through the Farm's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Details about the CSA program are
online.
Enjoy the delicious harvest of the season while also supporting the youth education and workforce development programs at the Farm.
In addition to the Urban Farm produce, baklava made by Sadika Jalmou--a Syrian refugee hosted by Fourth Church--will be for sale at the Mission table.

Dinner, Car-Making, and a Film
|
School is (almost!) out for summer, and to celebrate families with young children are invited to a classic summertime activity: a drive-in movie night!
Dinner from Flaco's Tacos will be held in Anderson Hall, followed by a chance for children to make their own drive-in vehicles out of cardboard boxes and a variety of other decorative materials.
Families will then "drive" upstairs to the Bumpus Room to watch
Coco on the big projector screen.
Time:
Friday, June 15
5:30 p.m.
Place:
Anderson Hall and Bumpus Room

"History of Oppression" Tour in October
|
This October 6-13, Fourth Church members and members of other congregations of the Interfaith Coalition Against Racism will take part in a weeklong exploration of historic sites in and near Washington, D.C., that reveal oppression and resistance in our history.
Led by Vicky Curtiss and Robert Crouch, participants will visit numerous museums and monuments, the Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to learn about current political efforts, and worship at Shiloh Baptist Church (founded by former slaves shortly after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation). They will also share in daily reflection and prayer as a group.
Other sites will include the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, and memorials to Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr.
More information (including cost details) is available
online, as is a
trip application form. Applications are due by Saturday, June 30.

Thank You for the Snacks!
|
Supporting Fourth Church Meals Ministry
|
The Fourth Church Meals Ministry steering team--and the guests they serve--are grateful to everyone who contributed to the recent Snacks for Sacks drive. More than 9,800 individually wrapped snack items were received.
Of course, hunger doesn't stop and neither does the challenge of filling some 300 sack lunches each week with a total of 900 snack items. Donations of snacks--granola bars, pretzel packs, fruit cups, or the like--are always needed and can be dropped off, marked "Meals Ministry," at the reception desk.
Thank you!
