Cornwall Public Library Newsletter - December 2022
From the Director's Desk...
I've just finished reading Solito by Javier Zamora. It is a heartwarming and heartbreaking memoir. Written in Javier's nine-year-old voice, it marks about three or four months in Javier's life when he was sent alone with a coyote from Guatemala to illegally cross over into the United States. I read it because I was drawn right into the story when I picked it up and started reading it. My father used to tell me that if you really want to know someone, you should learn about their culture, where they came from, and about their family. At the end of the book, I felt as if I knew Javier Zamora, and I felt hope. Let me know if you agree!

Thank You, Senator Skoufis
Charlotte Dunaief was thrilled to receive a check for $50,000 on behalf of the Cornwall Public Library, thanks to the advocacy of Senator James Skoufis for Orange County libraries. This generous Lo-CAP grant will enable CPL to renovate our restrooms and make them ADA compliant. We are all very grateful. What a lovely early holiday gift this was!
Plastic Victory!
Congratulations, Cornwall! Your efforts have helped us reach our goal of recycling over 500lbs of plastic film (as of Nov 28, 643lbs to be exact). Our promised bench is one step closer to becoming a reality.

So, now that you're in this recycling habit (remember...CLEAN, DRY and NO LABELS), keep up the great work of collecting your plastic, BUT bring it to a different collection point. Lots of stores have collection bins where you can deposit your plastic film (Hannaford, Shoprite & Price Chopper, to name a few). Together, we can continue to help our planet and safeguard our future.
