Imagine YOUR Perfect Day on the NC Outer Banks

NC's barrier islands, with the Atlantic surf crashing on the east and the Pamlico Sound wetlands gently lapping on the west, are THE PLACE TO BE in spring. Our 5-day Southern Outer Banks Tour itinerary features the "Pearl" of the Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island. Here is a sample from one fabulous Island Day on this tour.

7:00 a.m.: Breath in the Salt Air on an Early Morning Beach Walk

The beach on Ocracoke Island is one of the most pristine in the country. The 16 mile long island is mostly an undeveloped and protected National Seashore, with just one quaint and charming village at its southern tip. Your Carolina Tailwinds guides will make sure the coffee is ready early so that you can grab a cup of joe and enjoy this pre-breakfast walk when the light is just perfect!

8:00 a.m.: Savor a FULL Country Breakfast at The Castle B & B

The hot breakfast buffet at the Castle B & B is always a delight. The innkeepers make sure that it is the best spread on the island and that there is something for every taste. Don't miss the homemade fig cake, an island specialty!

9:00 a.m.: Paddle a Tidal Creek

After breakfast, enjoy a guided kayak tour of the creeks of Ocracoke Island and Pamlico Sound. Wildlife is abundant in this spectacular and unique habitat. Our expert local guides will provide insights into this rich ecosystem.

10:45 a.m.: Bike the Island

Highway 12 runs from Ocracoke Village along the undeveloped seashore to the island's northern end. It makes for a beautiful and fun out-and-back with stops along the way to see the famous wild "Banker Ponies" descended from European horses lost in shipwrecks or abandoned centuries ago. Multiple beach access points and the ferry terminal at the north end provide the chance to take in the Atlantic surf and the view the ferries cruising across Hatteras Inlet.

1:30 p.m.: Savor a Lunch of FRESH Fish Taco's at Eduardo's

Eduardo's is now an Ocracoke institution. You need to taste it for yourself before you leave the island. Fresh seafood, fresh veggies and more! How can you pass up this delectable island cuisine?

2:30 p.m.: Browse Shops Promoting Local Artists

Not much on this island was "Made in China." Creative local works abound in galleries that often double as the artist in residence's home and create a charming island vibe full of unique finds. Our vans are at the ready to bring back your prizes to the mainland.

3:30 p.m.: Take a Quick Dip in our Inn's Pool

The Castle B&B, our waterfront lodging, comes complete with a pool in the back yard! Top off your afternoon with a visit to the sauna and steam bath, or opt for a massage to recharge you at the end of the day (massage not included in the tour price).

5:00 p.m.: Sip Wine with the Gang on the Inn's Rooftop Deck

Overlooking Silver Lake in the heart of Ocracoke Village, and in view of the iconic Ocracoke Island Lighthouse, this is The Spot to laugh with new friends prior to dinner on the island.

6:30 p.m.: Dine at a Our Favorite Restaurant on the Outer Banks

Fresh, locally caught Red Drum (a.k.a. Redfish, Spottail Bass or Channel Bass) is arguably the best tasting white fish there is! Yum! Our favorite Ocracoke restaurant usually offers this fresh catch prepared multiple ways. Don't worry vegetarians and vegans -- how about Tikka Masala with Tomatoes, Coconut Milk, Onions, Peppers, Spinach & Cactus!

9:30 p.m.: Sleep Adventurer!

Tomorrow will be another great day on the NC Coast.
