Mrs. Calhoun's Spanish 2 classes made piΓ±atas as part of a unit on celebrations. They learned techniques for decorating with tissue paper and were surprised to discover that all the piΓ±atas in the world are handmade!

Rifle Team

MPHS JROTC Rifle Team won their third rifle match in a row. With a team score of 1049, setting a new high score for our shooters, the cadets continue to improve. Great match and great shooting. The competitions will continue next semester with 7 more matches until the end of the season in February.

Last Saturday, the Mary Persons High School swim team traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross to compete at the Holiday Invite.


The boys team swam the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay as exhibition since they only had three team members which required one to swim twice.  They still swam personal best relay times


Individually, the boys team posted time improvements and top placements.  Personal Best Times: Matthew Biers, Cason Cole, and Isaac McKallip. McKallip also qualified for the State Championships in the 100 yard Backstroke.


The girls also swam extremely well with several personal best times and a new State Qualifying time.  The girls B-relay team swam exhibition races in both the 200 yard Medley Relay and the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.  The girls A-relay team swam both the 200 yard Medley and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a best time of 4:00.35 in the 400 Free Relay.  The A-relay team members were Campbell Atkinson, Abbey Stembridge, Alanna Wood, and Maela McKallip.


Individually, Maela McKallip placed first with personal best times in the 100 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard Freestyle.  Abbey Stembridge swam her first State Qualifying time in the 100 yard Breaststroke.  Also swimming personal best times were Alanna Wood in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard Breaststroke, Olivia Tanner in the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Backstroke, Kailee Ray in the 100 yard Breaststroke, and Leilani Hichkad in her 100 yard Freestyle.


The swimmers are looking forward to their next meet this Saturday, December 17, at the Cherokee Aquatic Center.  Come support the Mary Persons Swim Team!

Extracurricular Information and Updates

FFA NEWS


ENR and Farm Business Teams


On Saturday, December 10th, the Mary Persons FFA Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) and Farm Business Management (FBM) teams traveled down to Tifton to compete in the State Career Development Events (CDEs) at ABAC. 

The Senior ENR team were Reserve Champions for the state of Georgia! Senior team members were Zac Acosta, Ethan Bertram, Laney Sparks, and Lola Talton. Individually, Zac was 5th High Individual and Ethan was the 6th High Individual. 

Our Junior ENR team placed 3rd! Team members included Bradley Acosta, Autumn Smith, Grace Bertram, and Penn Tyler. All team members placed in the Top 10! Individually, Autumn was the 2nd High Individual, Penn was the 5th High Individual, Grace placed 7th, and Bradley placed 10th. 

Our Farm Business Management team also fought hard and placed 6th at the state competition. Team members were Megan Grant, Madison Justice, Cameron Sparks, and Willow Waldrep. Cameron Sparks was the 3rd High Individual in the state! 

We are so proud of these students for their hard work and preparation for these state competitions!

During the end of the school year and the holiday season, the teachers get to have a little bit of fun, along with our students! This year, we had door decoration (winners pictured below), dress up days, and lots of other things. The school also worked together to collect donations for our community for this season.
