Welcome to Quilting News
October 2022
Message from Lisa
I do like the cooler weather when Fall comes around. I just can't believe that we are in October already. I took a drive today and the leaves are already changing around us.

I know that October has just about every weekend booked with something. Make sure you get your calendar out and put all these dates on your planner. Each Thursday we have Quilter's Daycare. Our Wooly Friends will meet on Tuesday the 18th. Our NEW Quilting Sister's group will be meeting on the second Saturday of each month. So October 8th will be our first meeting for Charity work. ROAD TRIP to West Virginia on October 21 to 22nd. (Details Below) and then we close out the month with Spooktacular on the 29th.

Several folks have asked when is my Christmas Deadline.... For now I will say the first of December. It really depends on how much comes through the door. But as always, the sooner you get your projects in to me the better. I will be closed the week after Christmas.

November we will have our Snack and Sew day on Friday after Thanksgiving. I thinks we might extend it to Saturday also. Some of my ladies don't have places to go so I try to have a place for those ladies to come to. Just bring a left over from Thanksgiving and we will nibble all day. You can leave your machines up through Saturday.

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Quilting Sister's
Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Are you open on the Second Saturday of each month? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items for charity groups. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse off of Urbine Road in Powhatan. We will start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM. Our first project will be Pillow cases for the hospitals. Please bring any ideas that you know about that we can add to our project list. We have a few new places that we will talk about at our first meeting. You will need to bring your machine to each meeting and all your supplies. I will post the list of items in my newsletter each month as to what you might need to pre-cut before you come. Dress very relaxed and if you have any questions, just give me a call. Our group has about 30 people who have expressed interest with our group. We have about 90 pillow cases for our first meeting. Please bring something to drink for yourself and maybe a few snacks to share with others. I'm so excited for this new direction for our ladies.
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 18th.. Doors open at 9 AM. We had a great program about backing papers and which types to use for different projects. We had a nice show n tell and a great discussion about needles. Thanks to Jean Roop for bringing samples for us to feel and touch. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting.

October is Halloween so bring all your Halloween items that you have made to share with the group. Thanks Ladies for all your inspiration!!
ROAD TRIP to West Virginia
Leaving on Friday, October 21st at 7:30 am from the shop, we will carpool to Summersville to The Quilt Shoppe. If you have not been to this quilt shop, it is a MUST on my list of best places. We will stay at the Hampton Inn there for the night. Cost per room is $150 a night. You can room with others or stay by yourself. On Saturday morning we will return to the quilt Shoppe and then move down to Fayetteville, WV to the Ben Franklins quilt shop and then head home from there. We should be back in Powhatan about 6 PM or earlier. Need your RSVP by Oct. 15th if you want to join our group.
Spooktacular Special Event
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 29th for our 7th annual event. What happens at this event our new folks might want to know. I pick a special project from a book and then I pre-cut a kit for only 13 people. Each person will receive a project box with all fabric needed to make the top of this secret project. It is always cut from my stash of Civil War reproductions. WE ARE FULL FOR THIS EVENT!
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. We are FULL right now with lots of ladies. SO please don't invite anyone else to our group Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Prayer Box for my customers
I have many of my customers who have recently had medical or family health issues arise or just traveling mercies. Many of my friends are prayer worriers and I think we could all use a little extra help about now. Delma Kemmet, Cathy Wells and husband, Sue Cook and husband, Teresa Whitlock, Bernadette Doerr, Midge Elliott and mom. Please also keep Sister Angelia in your prayers. She prays for our group all the time. Praying for each of these listed for God to touch and heal their needs in specials ways. AMEN.
Thank You!
Please continue to bring a bag with your project when leaving it for quilting services. This helps me to keep all of your items together.

Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo and/or Zelle.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
