Join us for the 20th Annual Walkathon on October 7th from 3:30-6:30pm. We are thrilled to be celebrating this milestone in proud Puesta del Sol tradition. It is one of the biggest Puesta del Sol events of the year!
Expect a lot of walking, running, maybe some dancing, yummy food, and a lot of fun!
This year, in addition to the usual festivities, we’ll be bidding a fond farewell to our beloved track and campus, and we encourage the Puesta del Sol community (current and alumni) to come by to join in. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with old friends, spend time with your family,
and enjoy a meal! Don’t miss it!!!
There are 3 things we ask of you:
The Puesta del Sol staff need to know if your student should take their usual transportation
home or if they have permission to stay for the event. Your student CANNOT participate until
you RSVP. If you do not RSVP, your student will be sent home as usual after school on October 7th.
This event is a PTA Fundraiser. We are using PledgeStar.com to collect donations. Once your child's fundraising account is set up, you can easily send fundraising emails to friends and family. Setup instructions are here. We ask that each student aim for $150 (or $300/family). We appreciate support at any level!
One more thing: Please help get the word out! Talk to other Puesta families you know and make sure that they are aware and sign up in time!!!
Other things to know:
WALKATHON IS (Mostly) a CASH ONLY EVENT!
We will have several great food options, including a Taco Truck, Pizza, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and a Bake Sale. We hope to have a credit card reader or two (stay tuned), but don’t set yourself up for disappointment - bring cash.
POPSICLE PARTIES FOR CLASSES WITH 100% RSVPs BY 9/30
We aim to have 100% RSVPs for all classes – it doesn’t matter "Yes" or "No", we just need to know either way in to make sure we have a documented plan for each student.
Online Registration closes Wednesday, 10/5.

Scholastic Book Fair
Scholastic Bookfair Volunteers Needed!
Dear Parents and Families:
I’m excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from October 3rd-7th.
The Scholastic Book Fair empowers our students to choose books they love, and with so many options, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s Fair is going to be epic, but we need volunteers to make it happen.
We hope that you can offer your time and talents to help students become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers— which in turn makes them bolder, prouder, and stronger individuals. And since every purchase benefits our school, helping is twice as rewarding.
Opportunities to assist include:
- Advertising
- Decorating
- Setting up the Fair
- Helping shoppers at the Fair
- Checkout
- Packing up the Fair
For students, this is one of the most anticipated events of the school year—and as a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to experience the Bookjoy firsthand! I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for the support,
Book Fair Chair/Director of Fundraising
Tara Jones

Art Appreciation Volunteer Meeting
Are you interested in helping with Art Appreciation?
We will be having an Art Appreciation volunteer meeting on Tuesday 10/18 at 9:15 in the PTA Office. We will go over all the details of getting to work in the class with students, where to find materials and get art lesson plans from. Come meet an artsy crew, nosh on yummy snacks and sip on hot coffee. It'll be fun!
For those of you who cannot make it, we are tentatively planning on hosting a Zoom meeting at a future date. In the mean time, please reach out to Alycia and Natalie at artappreciation@puestadelsolpta.org with any questions.

Room Parents
Changes to Grade-Level Fund Collection!
This year, grade-level Room Parents will solicit donations from their class families, pool the donations, and then split their collected funds equally between the classes in their grade. Room Parents use these contributions to help cover the costs of class celebrations, classroom supplies and/or teacher gifts. Please contact your child(ren)'s Room Parents or the Puesta del Sol Room Parent Coordinators (roomparentcoordinator@puestadelsolpta.org) if you would like more information.

Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month
Each year, we observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. We also observe Día de la Raza, Indigenous People's Day, on October 10.
The 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month Observance theme is: “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” The theme encourages us to ensure that all voices are represented and welcomed to help build stronger communities and a stronger nation.

Hello everyone!
My name is Danilo Gasca Silva. I’m 21 years old, and I’m from Colombia. Currently, I am a student of foreign languages at the University of Tolima. Furthermore, I’m a folk dancer and
a traditional music singer (not a famous one) in some groups at my university. What I’m most passionate about in life is being able to share with children, make them laugh, play with them, and see their growth with all the opportunities and benefits presented to them through education. I love reading (I’m a big fan of Harry Potter stories), traveling, cooking, studying medicine and eating sweets because I’m a very gluttonous guy, especially with chocolate.
I hope that we can work together and learn many new things that allow us to grow as human beings. For my part, I can assure you that I’m completely willing to learn from you in the best possible way and I hope that you can have a great example and learn through my work.
¡Nos vemos muy pronto, no puedo esperar para conocerlos!

Hey! I'm Erick Medrano from El Salvador.
I'm 26 years old. I enjoy participating in recreational activities and playing soccer. I like to be part of the teaching process as I also learn along the way. I am a person who is open to any possibility of trying something new in my life and thus having new experiences that make a difference. I know I'm about to live a great experience and meet people that will be part of my life somehow.
I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Hello!
My name is Erika Alcira Rivas Portillo. I am 27 years-old, I am 170 cm tall, and my favorite color is green. I am from San Vicente, El Salvador. I come from a city where people love music since the most important music bands of the country were born over here. Maybe it is the main reason because I love dancing and listening to music whenever I can. I also love watching movies, cooking, and going out with my friends and family. Recently, I finished my bachelor of education in the English language. It has allowed me to work with kids and young ages. A curious fact about me is that I am a coffee and animal lover.
Espero que esta nueva aventura sea increíble para todos, ¡los veo pronto!

¡Hola! My name is Celia Merino Calle and I’m from Spain. I’m 24 years old and I have just finished my English Studies bachelor degree in Valladolid. I’ve worked with kids during my years of student, so it’s time to face this new opportunity to share my language and culture to all of you! I’m a traveler person who loves to learn something new from all the places I’ve been.
I’m sure this experience is going to be amazing and we’re all going to have a great year!
¡Nos vemos pronto!
