Two of our current seniors had the incredible opportunity to work with world famous American operatic tenor and professor emeritus at the University of Michigan (Voice), Mr. George Shirley.
Senior Luis Vega Torres said, "Professor Shirley is a monumental figure in the opera world, and getting to learn from him was incredible. He shared knowledge he learned from all over the world and applied it to the music we were learning."
Senior Emery Cunningham replied when asked about working with Mr. Shirley, "Working with Professor Shirley was great. He taught me so much in such little time, we worked a lot on diction and making sure people understood what I was singing about. He told me that 'one of the most frustrating things is when an audience hears an amazing voice but does not know what they are saying.' He helped me figure out a way to break a habit. It was great!"
We are so grateful to Mr. Shirley for taking time out of his busy schedule to work with our students!
