Election Results Are In

As election results roll in, as believers we ought to have an unusual calm about us. Regardless of the outcomes, believers ought not revel in victory nor grieve in defeat the way the world around us does.

For we know that every person elected to office yesterday will have their term expire, so we celebrate not election season but Christmas season:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end. (Isaiah 9:6-7a)

We have been told:

Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. (Psalm 146:3-4)

Senate seats are up for grabs and may change hands, but Jesus Christ is:

Him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever. (Revelation 4:9)

Our God is enthroned in the heavens and his seat is never up for grabs:

The LORD sits enthroned as king forever. (Psalm 29:10)

And so may I remind you today, as I try to remind you every Lord’s Day:

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

Christian, rejoice for our God can do all things and no purpose of His can be thwarted. (Job 42:2)

Prayer Requests

Pray for us to be a people who love the Lord more than we love ourselves (2 Timothy 3:2-5).

Laura Ferris' mom who is elderly and has health problems, will be undergoing hernia surgery tomorrow, which presents risks.

Julie Newton has been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, stage 4. She will have surgery, and also various treatments. She and Jimmie have young kids so we pray for God's merciful intervention and for peace and strength.

Jim Parker, who has Parkinsons and ALS, now in hospice care.

Bob Straub needs a heart valve replacement and they are running tests to see if he is able to do the surgery with his other major health issues.

Jessica Ronson still deals with a life-threatening and chronic medical condition.

Landon Cook continues to be confined at home due to severe symptoms of PANDAS disorder. Pray for Terry and Lucinda as they try to help him through this excruciating period of life.

We are sorry if we have missed any prayer needs among our members. Please let us know: david@hayshills.com
