from the ptsa president
To all our PTSA members, thank you for your generosity! In the second and third rounds of PTSA appropriations we were able to continue to provide valuable resources and support to our staff and students.

PTSA dues and donations allowed us to grant the following requests:

  • Upgrade to Stadium Sound System – The PTSA partnered with the Athletic Boosters, SGA and Class of 2021 to upgrade the stadium sound system, which will benefit PE classes, band, athletics, student government and others that use the stadium.
  • Performing Arts – Provided funds toward a baritone saxophone, bought additional music stands so that there are enough stands in each classroom and replaced worn out 20-year-old music folders
  • Science – Purchased a digital hot water bath for the Genetics and Biotechnology classes which will allow for more accurate and consistent lab results.
  • Professional Development – Additional funding was approved for teachers in the World Languages and Performing Arts departments to attend conferences on topics that will advance curriculum and teaching techniques.

As you can see, there is much we can do to support the academic environment at Langley. The Appropriations committee meets once more this year in mid-May and we hope to fund additional requests received.

And one more reminder: The final PTSA General Membership Meeting will be held Wed, May 3 in the Cafeteria with guest speaker, LHS College & Career Specialist Karen Burke. Dranesville School Board Representative Elaine Tholen will be available for a Q&A immediately prior to our meeting and she is eager to answer your questions. Click here to submit your questions for Ms. Tholen by Sun, Apr 30. See you there!

urinetown
Langley HS’s Saxon Stage presents Urinetown, a hilarious musical about human rights, romance, revolutions…and toilets. Urinetown most notably won the Best Book and Best Score at the 2002 Tony Awards and is a musical comedy fit to make all audiences laugh, from Saxon Stage to Broadway.

Urinetown is a musical that pokes fun at musicals, and the Saxon Stage students are having laughs from script to stage. Performers are busy learning their lyrics and lines, rehearsing ensemble dance choreography, researching political principles discussed in the story and chuckling backstage at the comedy onstage in the show. Tech students spent afternoons constructing a large platform set fit with a sewer system crawl space, designing stylized costume and makeup looks for each Urinetown character and implementing a new surround sound system in the Langley Auditorium.

Performances begin tonight and run Apr 20-22 at 7 pm and Apr 23 at 2:30 pm in the Langley Auditorium (Door 14). Snag your tickets here or at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for seniors.
