As CDI Faculty co-Directors for Research, we have been working closely with the CDI team to create a plan to promote our UiM MGH researcher workforce. We continue to work to expand investigative networks and catalyze the cross-pollination of ideas. Through enhanced, meaningful, and fruitful collaborations, we are poised to enact sustained change to address longstanding structural challenges facing UiM investigators. It has been a pleasure to meet members of our UiM community.

2024 - 2025 Disparities Leadership Program Announcement - Request for Applications | |
The Disparities Leadership Program (DLP) is now taking applications for the 2024-2025 class. Letters of intent are due Friday, July 12, 2024, and applications are due Friday, August 2, 2024. The DLP is a year-long executive education program designed for leaders from health care organizations who want to implement practical strategies to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health care, particularly through quality improvement. To date, over 569 participants from 236 organizations representing 35 states, Washington D.C., the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Canada, and Switzerland have participated in the program.

HSDM Diversity Week
The Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) will be kicking off their Diversity Week in the first week of March. This year’s theme is "Looking Within, Onward, and Upward." We will be hosting speaker from across the country that can help us to continue to learn more about the different perspectives that exist in dentistry and how they influence our work in oral health, medicine, and academia. The Lunch and Learn presentations are designed to help us better understand how we can learn from one another with humility and respect for cultural differences and similarities. The Diversity Week speaker topics include: Socio-economic Disparities in Oral Health, LGBTQIA+ People and the Medical System, Accessible Oral Health for Patients with Disabilities, Men of Color in Health Care and Research, and Trauma Informed Care in Oral Health.

New England Science Symposium
The New England Science Symposium (NESS) provides a forum for postdocs (research and clinical); medical, dental and graduate students; post-baccalaureates; college and community college students to share their biomedical and health-related research activities through oral or poster presentations, to engage in discussions related to career development in the sciences, and to exchange ideas and to expand their professional networks.

Adjoa Anyane-Yeboa, MD, MPH; Yasmin Hernandez-Barco, MD; and Christopher Velez, MD, all of the Division of Gastroenterology, were named Fostering Opportunities Resulting in Workforce and Research Diversity (FORWARD) Scholars by the American Gastrointestinal Association. The FORWARD Program prepares physician-scientists from underrepresented populations for a successful career in academic medicine. | |
Wilfredo Matias, MD, and Jodian Pinkney, MD received the 2023 Massachusetts Infectious Disease Society Maxwell Finland Research Awards - given annually to one fellow from each of the Massachusetts Infectious Diseases training programs. The fellows are selected by their sponsoring institutions for recognition for research of exemplary quality during their training. The award is named in honor of Dr. Maxwell Finland (1902-1987), a great leader in 20th-century medicine, a founder of infectious disease as a medical sub-specialty, and a founder of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. J. Sawalla Guseh, MD, director, MGH Cardiovascular Performance Program, was appointed to the American College of Cardiology Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section Leadership Council. He will have a 3-year tenure and will work to shape the sports cardiology community nationally and internationally.

A. Shadi Kourosh, MD, MPH, Department of Dermatology, received an AAD Presidential Citation for her service as chair of the Ad Hoc Task Force on Dermatologic Resources for the Intervention and Prevention of Human Trafficking. | |
