Dear Residents -
This time next week, February will officially be behind us and spring only a few short weeks away. With spring comes the better weather and so many wonderful events to fill up our calendars.
First up, on March 3, 2024, the 17th Annual Penguin Plunge will be held from 12 pm to 2 pm at Memorial Park in Nyack. This event raises funds for seriously ill local children and their families. It is a truly inspiring event and, while I do not dip or plunge, I am happy to support them however I can.
That same day, the Rockland County Disability Advisory Council will be presenting a free movie at the Lafayette Theater in Suffern at 1 pm, entitled “Everybody Should be in a Band.” This film is about the power of playing music together to help us think and act differently, and it is a kickoff to their THINK DIFFERENTLY Campaign.
The following week, on March 12, 2024, Nyack Village Mayor Joe Rand and I will be at the Salonnière Coffee Bar, a local coffee shop in Nyack, for coffee and a chat with residents. This is the first of what I hope to be many of these events, ones where I can meet with residents at local establishments located throughout Orangetown. Suggestions for future events are welcome.
On a different note, I am happy to announce that Orangetown recently obtained an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant to be used toward the purchase of two new light-duty electric vehicles, one for use in the Sewer Department and the other in Parks and Recreation. These vehicles will replace two high-mileage, gas-powered vehicles that are at the end of their useful lives. I am proud to be a part of an Orangetown that is getting greener every day.
Enjoy the last weekend of February, I know I will!
Regards –
