The Talbot County Free Seed Library provides thousands of seed packets to community members. What started as an effort to empower people to grow healthy food and diverse landscapes has inspired hundreds of local gardeners to do just that, and interest continues to "grow."
The seed library is located at both branches of the Talbot County Free Library in Easton and Saint Michaels. It is entirely volunteer maintained, a partnership between the Master Gardeners of Talbot County and the Talbot County Free Library.
We used to receive most of our seedstock as donations from seed companies. That all changed during the pandemic. A huge increase in the number of people seeking to get outside and grow gardens caused seed companies to run out. Donations of seeds have slowed to a trickle.
We now must purchase most of the seeds we make available to the community. As nationwide interest in gardening took off, so did interest in the seed library, just as the availability of seeds started to dwindle.
We need your help to ensure we can still provide herb, fruit and vegetable seeds for those who want to grow fresh, healthy food, as well as flower seeds to help feed our local pollinators.
A monetary donation of any size will help us to purchase seeds for future growing seasons. Please consider giving to our "Grow It Forward," seed fundraiser.
You can donate online at tcfl.org or via check to The Talbot County Free Library Foundation (please put "Seed Library" in the memo) so we'll know to recognize your gift.
